Just for the lolz I was thinking of using an ancient Compaq desktop (dc7100) as a Linux machine and then installing JRiver MC on it (I have a JRiver Master licence). And then from there connecting to my main server (Win10 with JRiver in server mode). I'd output via USB to DAC etc.
Just to get me started would appreciate recommendation of which flavour of Linux to use. I was thinking either Ubuntu or Mint, but perhaps there is something easier/faster/more efficient? Can I download an ISO for JRiver's ID and use that?
Anything else I need to be immediately aware of?
Beyond using the new setup as a renderer the machine would not have to perform any other duties. Video not envisaged (as no HDMI).
Cheers
