MJ won't import files tagged 0:00 Length
« on: February 05, 2003, 11:51:43 am »

I have a bunch of downloaded music videos that show "Length" as 0:00.  They play fine, but MJ won't import them using the "Import Media" function (they do import if I start them manually and will show a Length of 0:00).

So, when I clear my library and try to re-import all my media at once (from a dedicated drive), the videos don't come in.

I don't know how (if there's a way) to change the tagged length so MJ will import these files.  MJ doesn't seem to let me do it.

Searching these forums didn't seem to provide an answer.  Any ideas?

What's the extension on the files? I'm shooting in the dark here but it is possible they were created with WMP9 which may have a different file format than previous versions. I don't have first hand experience with MJ playing videos...WMP (or QuickTime) is the default for movies and I just kept it that way. Run WMP or QT and see if they can be opened and played.

.mpg and .mov files.  Don't know what was used to create them.

To clarify, MJ plays the videos just fine - if started manually (from either File-Open or double-clicked in Explorer).  And, if auto import to library is checked, imports the files to MJ when played manually (Length displays as 0:00)

The bug appears when trying to use the Import Media function without playing them.  Then the files aren't imported.

I haven't tried MC9, so don't know how it works.

Working from memory here, I seem to recall that on the "Import Media" dialog box, there is a checkbox selection near the bottom to "not import files under 5 seconds", or something similar.  Could that be causing the failure to import?
