I have imported a new directory wich flac files and after the import I got the error message:

skipped 2804 files (filename too long)

The cause lies in the nested long descriptive directory names used. I thought JRiver supported long file names. Is there an easy way to get these files to import, short of shortening the directory / file names one by one.

Does a search show anything up?
How long are these paths?
Might be the limitation in Windows.

I probably erroneously assumes JRiver could go around the windows path length limit (like some applications can).
I hope the issue is resolved once Win 10 anniversary update comes around.

As far as I know:

A.  MC is bound by Windows file length limits.
B.  To fix the situation you should use a third party tool to rename the long file names to shorter ones.  There are tools specifically designed to locate and rename too long file names.  Here's one that I found.  I have NOT USED IT.

I'll try that one. My search for Filename Shortening Tools has had rather mixed results so far. Some don't quite do what they claim.
I'll try the one you indicated - and hope that the hopefully imminent lifting of the Windows path length limit will resolve the situation for good.

Can't you just copy the folders to a C:\ root or something with the shortets folder name and edit them to shorter names.

I know some of the classical track names can get very long , but I have always got around it by doing this.,

Once they are short enough just copy em back. It will probably only be a few tracks

Just a note that the latest builds of MC now allow you to disable the filename length checking.

Options > General > Advanced > Support extra long filenames

I suppose I should give you the same disclaimer I've given others.  That will make us start importing the really long filenames, but it's possible you'll find another place where we have trouble with the really long filename.  That's why the option is experimental.

Honestly it's pretty rare for us to use a fixed size string buffer, so it's possible you'll never hit any glitches.  But I need to offer the disclaimer since it just hasn't been tested well.
