MC Tutorial/Walkthrough Videos: 8 Tutorials Now Available
« on: August 12, 2017, 11:08:44 am »

As it doesn't look there's any tutorial videos coming from JRiver anytime soon so I've created my own. . .  :)
Not difficult to do, didn't take too long once I got a test setup organised.

Hopefully of use to MC users new and old. . .

  • 01 JRiver Media Centre Install https://youtu.be/Np-kCW4Quw4
Installing JRiver MC V22, importing your media collection, analysing audio files and playing your first track.

  • 02 JRiver Media Centre Configuration Customisation https://youtu.be/lterOG2610Q
Configuring/customising JRiver MC V22 using my 'standard config' (this is documented in a text file attached to this post). The skin I use is linked at the bottom of this post.

  • 03 JRiver Media Centre Major Version Upgrade https://youtu.be/c4SwFPHb5c0
Upgrading MC V22 to MC V23 (major version upgrade) using the library backup and restore method.

  • 05 JRiver Media Centre Further Customisation and Minor Version Upgrade https://youtu.be/TsYj5lWil60
Further customisation, a few minor corrections to Video 02 and a minor version upgrade of MC.

  • 06 JRiver Media Centre Link Checkbox and Uninstalling Old Versions - https://youtu.be/QwKbp45oKDo
Media Centre Link Checkbox - more detail; Uninstalling Old Major Versions.

More in the pipeline . . .  :P

NB: I've linked my customisation 'crib sheet' to this posting. This covers many of the changes I make to the 'standard' MC install I talk about in my videos.
This posting https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,110589.msg764452.html#msg764452 shows a way to import the 'utility' tagging views I use.
The 'Black and Blue Too (SB)' Skin I use is here https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,98476.msg680939.html#msg680939

I haven't watched and given it's vacation season, others may be missing it, but thank you.
It would be nice to get them linked on the Wiki or some other page as they will sink here.

Nice. I have often thought about doing some myself, but time, and there is so much to do.

Well done. I watched, and while they are the tip of the iceberg, they are a start.

Thank you for your kind words. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I have got so much out of other people's YouTube videos that I felt I had to give a little bit back.  . . They are actually fun to make as they test my own knowledge. There's been no 'official' response from Jim so I don't think they'll make a 'sticky' post but I'll 'bump' when I add a new video and keep them all together in one post. I've a few words to add to each video and I'll link in some of my 'notes'. I'll also link back to the forum from YouTube when I get a moment.

They are all a 'single take' so they don't take long to make. You can't update much written documentation in 10-15 minutes but a short video tells a very big story. They are not without their little mistakes (I do make some little corrections in video 4 or 5) but I was happy with my first attempts.

There is indeed a long list of topics to cover and I only know what I know but with a bit of research I'll feel I can have a stab at some features I don't use regularly. At least I can offer an short introduction as a taster  :)

New video posted.

06 Media Centre Link Checkbox - more detail; Uninstalling Old Major Versions.

Are there any topics people would like videos on? I'm trying to cover the basics but have some ideas for further topics but I only know what I know  :)

Great stuff, I really appreciate the tagging overview.  I think people may appreciate a tutorial on how to use expressions...

Another video added: How to create a MC network by adding a Client to a MC Server. https://youtu.be/PVJxuw0xgNI

I'm thinking about a tagging video, I do 98% of my tagging in MP3Tag so it might not be what people want to see  :P  but it works for me and at least it will cover the basics and the problems that dodgy tags cause in MC.

I see I'm still safe from the stampede of people rushing to create their own MC videos to show off their own configs, walk throughs or tricks and dives  :)

Thank you Spike/ Badger. Have yet to watch all your vids but you do make things very clear and simple- and the black and blue skin is tops. I was using black on black but this is easier on the eye.
Now to uninstall previous major versions of MC...
