for a long long time we could click on album artist and then tag however we wanted to - now a message in tagging window "no files selected"
is this how JRiver wants it ?

Yes.  You need to select the files you want.  Ctrl-A for all.

The problem was that an accidental tag or deletion of all files in a view was possible.

i was initially happy with this response but i thought i would revisit it because i am very unhappy

i have just paid for the latest version and i also have version 20.0.132 installed which i use to do my tagging - this shouldn't be necessary

for years the process for tagging has been the same with never a problem so i do not understand & if someone "stuffs up" tagging isn't permanent anyhow

just tried some more tagging with 20.0.132 and nowhere is there an option to delete instead of tag so i couldn't delete even if i wanted to

this does not make sense!

Sorry you're unhappy, but this won't be changed.  It was truly dangerous.
