Topic: program hang on open (Read 5881 times)

I have attached the log file. Problem happens after a certain amount of time has lapsed since the last time the program jrm21 was opened. Problem is upon opening the program appears to hang and takes upwards of 20 seconds to finally open. The screen goes white for several seconds and then finally opens.

Please let me know what else if anything you need to help me diagnose this issue. Thanks.

This is kind of a mystery:

Do you have some anti-virus installed or something else that might monkey with things?

That's just a crazy amount of time to spend on something that should be pretty much instant.

I am using MS Security Essentials and use this on all of my machines, have been for many years so doubt that is the problem. Nothing fancy, default settings in MS Security Essentials. Also worth noting i've got versions 15, 16, 19, and 20 that do not have or ever had this issue on same machine. Not sure what else i can provide but happy to do so just let me know. Curious to know what those 2 lines you mention are related to.

You can't be certain without uninstalling it. That other versions work doesn't mean anything, but please read this:

new log file attached... disabled antivirus but problem persists. USB ports do not apply to my situation.

nope... nothing running or hooked up that would cause this. No other program has ever exhibited this type of behavior. Again, what does this point to....?

I believe we're trying to draw on the screen and it isn't working. Matt would have a better guess.

Try disconnecting any devices you can.

Are you playing from a local library? Are any of the files on network drives or USB drives?

That would make sense because the taskbar goes white while it's trying to startup. I actually have no library setup with no paths whatsoever. Even have disabled all features other than "video support".

Try re-enabling all features. Maybe it's a problem we haven't found.

turning back on all features appears to have solved the issue but will need to give this a day or two to confirm.... so far so good. However am now getting an occasional application error when logging user out or restarting machine which reads JRWorker.exe - Application Error, The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

what security software? do you mean antivirus? MS Security Essentials is the only "security" software i have running unless you are referring to MS firewall settings.

Maybe i'm missing something here but it appears you keep referring to 2 things, either antivirus is the problem or some device hooked up to a usb port. I've already stated that if i remove antivirus entirely from my machine it doesn't change anything and secondly i have NO devices hooked up to usb that has anything to do with JRM.

i don't use defender, i have ms security essentials which is similar if not the same product, nevertheless as i've said i have uninstalled it entirely but has no effect.

If it's only with features off, can you figure out what feature needs to be off specifically to cause the problem?

that could take a looong time to figure out given the number of features. If you had to guess, could you or the folks that code jrm make a suggestion of which features might cause this behavior to give me a place to start? Although my problem is solved i'm still willing to help the cause.
