It sounds like maybe you've got MC configured to only add ONE track at a time to Playing Now.  When you click on a track in an album, then go to Playing Now, what do you see there?  One track?  Or many?

Thanks Brian---I may have corrupt WAV files.  I just imported an album's worth of songs ripped in iTunes to Apple lossless, and I don't have the same problem.  Luckily I only have 725 CDs worth of rips to either re-do or batch convert, if that solves the problem.  ;-)
