Output format adjustment trouble
« on: August 14, 2016, 12:37:48 pm »

I'm using JRiver 20 for mac.

I have a lot of files that I have recorded at different bit rates. As I go from one song to another, the input sample rate will vary and I can get into trouble with the computer not being able to handle a song with a 24 bit 64000 0r 96000 bit rate.

To solve this problem i have to go to output format and adjust "all" the outputs to 96000 bit rates!!!! This works great and solves the problem.

The problem I'm having is that it won't stay set that way. Seems like it's going to stay for a while, and when I least expect it, it's back to the original setting of 44,100 Hz for all the outputs?? How can I get the output settings to stay where I want them at 96000 Hz???

I tried saving settings at the bottom right corner and named it, but that didn't work and I can't find the setting I saved. Please help

DSP Studio > Output Format > Sample Rate > (adjustments here)

This is where you should change your mappings.  They should "stick" after you set them and not need to be reset or recalled.  They should not change on their own.

But a Mac's internal sound card should handle all of the common sample rates without changes, up to 96kHz.  It should play 44.1, 48, 96, etc with no problems.

What problem are you trying to cure?

DSP Studio > Output Format > Sample Rate > (adjustments here)

That is exactly what I did??? But it won't stay set that way. Everything returns to output 48. That's my trouble. I can't figure out why the setting won't stay Put. The Mac is set for 24 bit 96,000hz and stays there.

The 24 bit songs static's up because when the j river reverts back it can't handle a 64,000 or 96,000hz bitrate. When it happens, the song sounds like anything from white noise imposed over the music to loud white noise and no music. when i reset the settings for the output everything returns to normal.

What version of OS X are you using?  What audio playback hardware (sound card, DAC, etc) are you using?

I've never seen or heard of this behavior, so I guess we need some more info.

I have yosemite 10.10.5.
I'm using an Audio Dragonfly Red DAC. through a jitterbug.

The Audio Midi Set-up in my computer's utilities is set at:
Built in line output 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)
Built in output 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)
"Digital out" 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)
"audioquest dragonfly red 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)

Built in line input 44100.0 hz (2ch - 24 bit)
built in digital input44100.0 hz(2ch - 24 bit)

I had just noticed when I sat to write this that the built in line output and the built in output were set at 44100.0 hz (2ch - 24 bit). So I just changed them to:
Built in line output 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)
Built in output 96000 hz (2ch - 24 bit)

Do you think this was the trouble? I guess time will tell, or do you have any other ideas???

Usually you don't need to do anything specific in Audio MIDI setup for MC to properly control your external USB DACs.

First, try some "safe" audio settings in MC:

Tools > Options > Audio > Audio Device > Device settings >
Integer Mode > (Uncheck)
channel offset : 0

Buffering:
software:  250 mS (or more)
hardware:  Default

Then close everything, STOP MC, and restart it.

If that doesn't make any difference I would try removing the jitterbug.  If that doesn't fix it, I would try a different USB port.

Finally, if none of that works, (or maybe before?) I'd set the Dragonfly to 32bit Integer output.

Good luck.

After reverting to the default settings on the first day once, everything seemed to settle in and has been stable and locked in to output 96,000 hz for the last week. I think the problem is solved. Thanks, AL
