No audio output [Solved]

I have a PC running win 10 that has an optical output. I had problems with dropouts using Kaspersky antivirus, and based on board info, changed to Windows Defender. I no longer have dropouts but I have no audio output at all. I am running version 22 of JRiver.
This is a dedicated audio only music server. No video, etc. I believe the issue I'd a defender setting, but I have been unable to find what it might be.
Any thoughts?

I haven't heard of any anti-virus software causing problems like you describe.

Are you using an on-board audio chip/card? Are you using WASAPI?

If so, check the settings in Windows Sound Properties (Control Panel>Sound) for your audio device. Sometimes upgrades change the sound properties back to default state.

Just re-checked and settings are good o the audio output.

No it is not working. I will try to disable Defender and re-instal Kaspersky to verify that Defender is the issue. It may take a few hours to get to.

Problem resolved. Issue was way too basic; an air gap in the fiber cable connection.
If the cable is not pushed all the way in you can expect trouble.
Sorry for the attention, but we all foul up sometimes.
