some DSD questions
« on: August 19, 2016, 09:13:35 pm »

I'm using a NUC with benchmark 1000 to play FLAC from a wired server.

I got a DSD capable DAC. Playing 16/44 and pure DSD (DFF) files I have no problems.

But I can't play 24-bit FLAC without getting stuttering. The CPU maxes out.

Some questions:

1) Is it maxing out because it's converting the files on the the fly and can't handle the bigger ones?

2) What benchmark do I need (approximately) to not max out the CPU?

3) Does the Id have the power for this?

4) Can I set MC to play all 16-bit files and DFF as DSD, but everything else as PCM? How?

1.  Don't know, but appears to be conversion.

2.  Don't know.

3.  Doubtful.

4.  Yes, if you use Zone Switch.  Please see the wiki.

Which Id is it?

What OS?

Any antivirus software?

No antivirus. It's the DN2820FYKH NUC running Windows 8.

I tried it from my laptop (AMD10) with a 1900 benchmark and it's fine. I guess I need to upgrade.

What's the benchmark score of the standard NUC?

The JRMark is 1021.  That's the original 2820FYKH, but the newer 5CPYH should be similar.
