JRiver: Status on dates?
« on: July 29, 2003, 03:43:05 pm »

Wondering how the progress on date handling are going. In view schemes, they are still quite useless because of the format displayed (11,3 days ago).

Grouping dates would be another issue. Here you COULD choose if you wanted teh dates to be grouped by hours, days, years etc...

Example:
I imported Chicago - The Chicago Story. Then I made a quick View Scheme with Audio - Date Imported. The import split in two "11,0 days" ... Not really what I was looking for! Grouping this to "3" resulted in 33,6 years! I don't even know what I might have imported 33,6 years ago :)

So, any plans for dates in MC?

Date handling for the "Date" field is quite good now.

Date Imported is a "time elapsed" field instead of a plain "date" field.  Maybe we can make that configurable in a future version.

Thanks Martin.

Thanks yourself Matt!

So, if I understand you right, all date fields stores the date in the same format, but displays them differently, some as you said "time elapsed" and some "the date"?
If so, it would be great to be able to use those "time elapsed" fields (and foremost easy, for you I mean) since they actually are the same...yes?

I personally don't really care if the date displayed is "2003-07-30 18:18" or "1,01 days ago" as long as you can use it as effective as possible, so if the user can sort or group by min/hour/day/month/year in all date fields then I'm only cheering!

Thanks for taking time to explain!

Is any more work going to be done on dates other than the default 'date' fields in MC?

Any way to group the dates etc so we can use: Last played, imported, etc. properly - esp. within panes?

Could group to have say:

Last Played

etc. - same for imported?

Nila,
Exactly! That's what I was hoping for... Otherwise I recommend the same thing as last time: Remove those date types from the selectable items, since they don't fill any function in their current state... Sorry, but think of the new users, getting all excited and then leave them thinking that date handling doesn't work...
