BookOnTheRun Made it Across the Pond!
« on: December 01, 2002, 04:36:15 am »

THANK YOU, DOLLY!

I just heard from the book we sent to Zevele.  It's in South Africa!

If you weren't around when it started, well, it's a long story, but some hair-brain decided to send Zevele a book by hand, not by mail.  I took it to France in September, where I left it with a Dutch friend.

Here is an e-mail I just got from her:
-----------------
Hello Jim. How are you since Paris? I read the book and I must say that I thought it very funny. It shows how people are interested when you do something out of the ordinary. Of course it is a useless thing to do, hitchhiking with a fridge, but it is a way to meet people and exchange experiences.

I took the book to South Africa and Namibia. And as I had not finished reading  I took it back to South Africa.  I left it with Trudy, a dutch lady who runs a guest house in Somerset West ( 6O km. from Capetown) with her husband. There arrive people from all over the world so I hope she can find somebody interesting  who will take the book to the next destination.

I must say hello to ;you  from Madelon. We are going to celebrate Sinterklaas  this afternoon with the whole family. Should be fun. I give you the address of Trudy herewith in case you want to know how it is going.

Best greetings  Dolly.

I heard again from Dolly today.  Here's what she says.  It's good news.

"I got a mail from Trudy in South Africa that the book is now in the hands of a swiss boy: Patrick Gozow, Puggehacher 25, 6O43 Alligenswil Switzerland. Tel: O835 - 188783.

"I do not know whether Trudy mailed it to you  as the quest house is in the middle of the high season  and she is very busy . Anyway the book is in Switzerland now and hopefully it is going to travel again. "

Donc, Zev, tu doit le telephoner de dire "salud" et "le lit vitement, s'il vous plait".

The Dutch (in the person of Dolly) score a big one for their country.

I contacted Amizon Dot Com

Jeff told me that JimH has Bought the same book for the past 5 months each week and has been sending them around the world.

I feel this is to saturate the chances of one book getting to the destination.

Give up Jim

Do you think i have to phone the boy?
I do not mind doing it ,but for the beauty of the game i think i have to stay out of the story.

Next time just go to Broklin or a falafel stand in Los Angeles ,i would get the book even before you gte back home......

I think you said the same abou taking it to the Follies Bergere in Paris, and a few weeks I took it there to photograph the book in front of the building.

It was about half an hour later that I stumbled across the path of Dolly and her daughter, Madelon, the wife of my very good friend and sailing pal.  Then the book took wing.
