I need to build a PC to manage a 24-camera security camera system. I know this is an odd forum to ask about this, but I'm trying to determine necessary CPU power. Comparing to a home video server, the cameras are 4MP resolution, which is more than 1080p, but the frame rate will be much lower than a typical movie stream, so would it require the same CPU power to transcode a surveillance video at 4MP as a typical 1080p movie? Also if anyone has camera monitoring software favorites, I'd love to hear them.
