MC 22, Playing DSD files with a non DSD DAC?
« on: November 13, 2016, 09:40:12 am »

Got a new DAC (Schiit Gungnir) that does not do DSD, but does support 24/192. I'm trying to figure out how to configure JRiver to hear my DSD files. I'm not going to be converting the files as I use 2 other DACs in different systems that are DSD capable, I just need to customize the output for the Gungnir.
Can anyone help?

Actually, what happens when you attempt to straight play the DSD files? They should automatically be converted to PCM on-the-fly as long as DSD bitstreaming isn't enabled.

At least it works that way with my Schiit DAC.

EDIT: You should also open DSP Studio > Output Format and set all sample rates above 192,000 Hz to resample to 192,000 Hz (like so below) and it *should* output DSD files fine at 24/192 PCM.

Thanks,
They still play, but I wasn't sure if the files were being output at the best setting. I'll try your suggestion.

Yep, that works  :D
