Delay between songs of up to 20 seconds
« on: November 06, 2016, 09:18:05 pm »

Looking for any help.

Playing through a Beoplay A6. I use jremote to control playback.

Here's the problem that has developed. Gap between songs can be the normal several seconds for song or two and then goes to 10 to 20 seconds. By reconnecting my speaker to the network, restarting MC 22 I can restart this process with a song or two being normal and then reverting to the long gaps.

Any help much appreciated.

If you right click on the Renderer in Playing Now, you'll see a few options.  I've seen various discussions about enabling or disabling SetNext support.  You might try disabling (or enabling) that option.

Brian - Thanks so much. Made the change and have tried it a few times and no delay! Here's to hoping it continues!

Turns out what has the playback working with normal 3-4 second delay between songs is when I keep Media Center open on my desktop. I had previously had it closed.

Anyone know if this makes sense. Could it be that it changes how fast the next song is queued?

Thanks folks.

Nope. It doesn't make any sense to me. The only things that influence the track queuing are as follows..

a) enable SetNext support means the next track is queued ("Set Next") as soon as the current track starts playing.
b) disable SetNext support means the next track only gets queued once the current track has finished playing.
c) enable Transport Events means that event callbacks are used to determine if the current track has finished playing.
d) disable Transport Events means that status polling is used to determine if the current track has finished playing.

Thanks Andrew for weighing in. Odd then. I did try disabling SetNext but that ended up not being the solution.

You've probably tested for this already, but is there any chance the computer hosting MC is going to sleep and is being woken by the request for the next track? I don't know if the renderer is pulling or MC is pushing, so I could be way off base here.

^
No matter whether pushing or pulling the renderer does an http GET to retrieve the track. Perhaps the delay is not due to the PC sleeping but perhaps the HDD is sleeping??

^ I suggested PC sleeping because keeping MC open on the server seemed to prevent the problem, so I figured the original poster was "using" the MC computer to keep an eye on things. But I suppose faffing about while using it could be preventing the HD from sleeping.

Really appreciate your both debating this on my behalf :) Thanks!

The computer is set to never sleep. Only set to have screen turn off.

Curious - What is "faffing" mean?

faffing: to spend your time doing a lot of things that are not important instead of the thing that you should be doing

It is UK slang
