CD ripping in MC 9.1.221 Broken?
« on: July 24, 2003, 04:34:45 pm »

I originally posted this under the MC 9.1.220 thread, but J River hasn't answered it, so I am posting it here, because the problem persists in MC 9.1.221.

"Just updated from 9.1.219 to 9.1.220. New build no longer allows me to rip my CD's. The following errors appear:

1  "No audio track selected for copying" and
2  "Only audio tracks can be used for copying."

Other than installing new MC9 build, the only other XP Pro software changes made (before installing MC9.1.220) were to install DirectX 9.0b and one security patch, using Windows Update.

Manually selecting audio tracks doesn't work to get rid of first error message. Problem persists on every CD I have tried. All CD's are soundtrack albums and none of the CDs are copy protected, nor do they contain non-audio files. The CD's were previously ripped in MC 9.0.180, in MP3 format, without problems. I am now re-ripping everything to APE format in secure mode.

This looks like a BUG to me. Could it be WMA or Digital Rights Management rearing it's ugly head?

So far, it seems 3 users have problems ripping with build 221 and 2 don't. So my question is WHY?

As I mentioned in my original post, the only thing different about my system prior to installing builds 220 and 221 was updating to DirectX 9.0b and adding a security update (will this ever end with Microsoft?).

I am still waiting for J River (Matt or JimH) to respond to this problem.

As for the 2 users who have posted that they are ripping OK, I am curious to know if they, too, have updated to DirectX 9.0b and what OS they are using. My quess is that the three who are having problems are using XP Pro and have all the latest Windows updates, including DirectX 9.0b.

I'm running W2k SP4 with the DX9b update...there may be something to that. Things that make you go hmmmm. EAC still works (preferred rip/encode method anyhow).

Same exact problem for me, with the identical error/warning messages noted in the first post.  I just switched from MC9.0.180 to MC9.1.221 this afternoon and ever since then I cannot rip any audio cds.  What's the story?! ?

I can verify that, at least for me, it's been working great.  Nice job and thank you! ;D
