Shouldn't it just try to use the filename if no tags are present in the series?  Don't recall having seen this in the past even if tags weren't there.

Added TV Show as a media sub-type and it scraped the info...

Media sub type needs to be Movie to get movie info, and TV show to get tv info. Obvious really..

Media sub type needs to be Movie to get movie info, and TV show to get tv info. Obvious really..

Why? If there is a Season and Episode such as SeinfeldS1E2 and no sub-type has been attributed for some reason it should still be smart enough to perform the search.
That was my point.

It's a bit of a mystery how Sub-types get attributed. As per my other post http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,108193.msg750041.html#msg750041 it's tagging my imported Home Videos as TV shows some of the time (I'd say about 50% of the time).  But then real shows or movies don't get tagged on import...

The Sub Type is used to control metadata behavior - ie. which sources are used and which information is used for lookup. If its set to Movie and has a Episode value (which I sometimes use to group movie series), that doesn't suddenly make it a TV Show.
Any automatic "guesses" are only performed during import (ie. by Carnac), not during metadata lookup. If this couldn't fill the season/episode, then what chances would the next process have figuring those out?

I believe if no automatic tagging is applied, when the program/video-file is 60 minutes or under, it is considered a TV Show. Over 60 minutes it is a Movie.
I think this was posted somewhere a while back - at least that's my recollection.

However, you can get around this by saving your recordings to specific folders (like "Home Video, TV Shows, Movies, etc.) then apply the proper media subtype tag. So at "Library & Folders > Config Auto Import" you would select the folder and Edit it and then go to "Apply these Tags (optionally)" and add the media subtype tag you want.
