Audio File Location Can't Be Read Only
« on: December 04, 2016, 09:28:59 pm »

When I try to exit Tools/Options I get this error: Audio File Location Can't Be Read Only. In the File Location tab I don't find anything that's intuitive to reset. I have to Cancel to close this window. Any suggestions/solutions?

Thanks.

I don't think that's it. I think I buggered up a setting in player. I'm the admin for my desktop. If I go to Tools/Options, and then try to close out-without any changes-I get this error. I can only close out by hitting the X button.

do you know how to check to see if your files are read only...this has nothing to do with MC it is a windows setting?!

or your trying to make the changes on a MC Client!

I go to Explorer/Music, right click to properties? It's set on read-only. I'm not sure what an MC client is.

What ever it is you're trying to do, MC needs to alter the media file(s) (i.e. write new tags/erase tags). But, because the files are set to read-only, MC can't alter it

You have 2 options, I believe:
1. go back to the properties and un-check the read-only box, this will allow MC to alter the file.
2.  inside MC go to Options (Ctrl+O) >General > Importing & Tagging and un-check Update tags when file info changes. (this should get rid of most of the errors. I think.

Unchecking read only in windows doesn't stick, and unchecking update files in MC does not stick, and the error prompt continues. I may try a system restore and/or reinstall MC.

Are any of the files open or being used by another program?

Are you pressing the OK/APPLY button, instead of closing out of the properties/options window?

you can use Process Explorer v16.20 To Find Out What File Has The Files Open.

If you wish to try it...

Process Explorer is beyond my understanding. I ran it, but just stared at it after that!

that means media center must have been running maybe in the background holding the file open.
