Author Topic: Control the MC on the QNAP HD Station without having a HDMI monitor?  (Read 3332 times)

Hello : )

Sorry for being a total noob – but I have a question concerning the JRiver Media Center on QNAP.

I already have a MC running on my Windows System to stream music to my (network) AV receiver.
But it´s very annoying to turn on the computer each time, to listen to some music.

So I thought it would be a good idea to buy a NAS, put it in the cellar, install the MC on it – and stream
the music directly to the AV receiver in the living room.

So far, so good. I installed MC manually and it appears in the QNAP HD Station – but what next?
Obviously I can´t access the Media Center nor any other app from HD Station without plugging in
a HDMI monitor.

Is there any other way to control the MC on the QNAP without having a HDMI monitor nearby?

Many thank´s for your help and best regards
christian

Welcome to the forum.

There are some QNAP threads on the Linux board here.

You could connect with a virtual desktop program.

You can use one of our remotes to connect but setup will probably require a monitor or virtual desktop connection.

Also take a look at Panel.  It's described on the MC22 for Windows board.

Hello Jim,

Thank's for your quick reply!!!

Let's say, that I plugin a HDMI monitor, mouse and keyboard for the first setup of MC on the QNAP.

You wrote that I can use one of your remotes to connect to the MC. Does that mean, I can use the
MC on my Windows to manage the MC on my QNAP (importing new music, for example)?

Or does this mean, I can use the gizmo app on my android to control the MC on the QNAP (as I did before with my Windows MC)

Best regards

The remotes work the same way as they do on Windows.

Importing can't be done remotely, but you could set up auto import in Tools > Import.

Hello Jim,

Thank´s again for your answer! I managed to setup the MC on the QNAP
and stream music via Gizmo to my android device. Is there any chance to
select the songs in Gizmo, but stream it directly to a (DLNA) network receiver,
instead of playing it on the android device? That would be great  :D

In Gizmo there's a bar at the top that says "playing here."  Press that bar and a list of playback locations should appear.  Your DLNA device should show up there, but if your DLNA device doesn't appear, you may have to do some additional configuration of MC on the QNAP first, but what you want to do is definitely possible.
