I'd like to make a smartlist that does not duplicate any artists.  The "~nodup" keyword mearly prevents artists with more than one song in my database from being picked.   So it only picks artists with one song.  Not what I want.  I'd like a random set of songs without seeing any artist more than once. Is there a keyword to search unique entries from a tag? [Unique]="Artist"??

Any Ideas?

Not at the moment.  Tho this has been mentioned before and Matt did show some interest then... maybe once all the UI enhancements have been added this may get implemeted.  Would be very cool...

That's a shame it's not in there and no way to pseudo do it.   Well all I can do is hope the powers that be consider putting it in.

There is a way to do it but it involves a lot of smartlists. First create a smartlist for each artist with a limit of 1 track. For example:

Artist: Genesis Limit: 1 tracks
Artist: Fleetwood Mac Limit: 1 tracks
Artist: Peter Gabriel Limit: 1 tracks

You can then create a smartlist that will play all these smartlists:

Playlist: 1 Peter Gabriel Track, 1 FM Track, 1 Genesis Track

Ouch-o-rama!  There's too many artists to do this for and I'd have to make a new smartlist each time I'd add another.  But at least that is a painful option.

It would seem as easy to implement a "find unique" entries on a field/tag as the "find duplicates" that is already a feature.  I hope it comes along soon.
