The problem is found only in Theater View?  That is odd.

Also, I am a bit confused by your channel lineup.  Is "103 ITV HD" the same as "3 ITV Border England"?  If so, how come they have different name in the Channels list and in the Programs list?  If they are not the same, can you find the listing for "3 ITV HD" in Standard view?

Yes text/font error only in theatre view

Lineup itv border is regional variation of national itv. Has different news and other programmes

I would like to see programs for "ITV HD" listed in standard view.  You can do this by clicking the channel "103 ITV HD" in the channels list.  This way, only programs for this particular channel will be listed.  Please see my screenshot for an example.  This way we will be sure to see whether the text is displayed correctly in Std View.

Yes, just as I suspected.

There can be two causes - one is that the TV station declared wrong code page for the text of the guide data, the other is that they did declare the right code page, but we do not recognize it.  If it is the first, we can not do anything about it.  If it is the latter, maybe we can fix that.

Please restart MC, run OTA EPG scan once, and send me the logs.  Thanks.

1. Run MC22, and go to TV Options > Advanced, and change "Logging Verbosity" to 2.  Close MC so you can perform the next step.

2. Please download, unzip, and copy JRTelevision.dll into MC22's installation folder.

3. Start MC.  Run OTA EPG scanning.  Send logs to me.

Thanks.

Yes, please send a log, using the latest version of MC (build 59) and the DLL I provided, and logging verbosity set at 2.

The file you sent did not include any logs.  It only contains a "System Info.txt" file.  Can you try again?

Thanks.  Now it is the time for me to say "I rushed the previous one".  I forgot to include a couple of files.

Please download this and unzip.  Copy the DLL into MC installation folder as before, and copy the *.txt files into the TV subfolder.

The log shows that you did not use the latest DLL that I provided.  Please make sure you actually copy the DLL (downloaded from dropbox, as linked above) into the MC22 installation folder.  The DLL, JRTelevision.DLL, was modified on 1/20/2017, 11:20 am and has a file size of 4035072 bytes (3941 KB).

Not sure what happened there, as I had the correct file in place. Anyway, rebooted PC and tried again, and all info is now readable - thank you!

However, I see that Season and Episode numbers are not populating. Is there any way of fixing this?

We do populate season and episode if the broadcasters include them.  If you believe that they do include the data, send me a log again.

UK Freeview (and also Freesat) carries a Unique Programme ID and Series ID, to allow Freeview/Freesat PVRs to record series without recording duplicates. I'm hoping you can access that data.

Hi both, I've been following your work in this with interest.

At the weekend after most of my guide which had been populated with readable data, became completely empty.  Tried tp repopulate using OTA, no joy so turned OTA off. Overnight, it repopulated with majority garbage data?

Will future updates include modified DLL? I'm currently using 22.0.54

Upgrade to build 59 (on MC22 board) and then copy the DLL and the txt files that I provided, until a newer version comes out.  Or just wait for the newer version to come out (I don't know when).

I use freeview, is this a problem?

As far as I know, they use the same text encoding methods.  So there should not be a problem.

Trevor,

Thanks for sending in a log with high verbose level.  I sifted through the file and still could not see any problem.

For example, I did get the following programs on channel 106 BBC FOUR HD:

EventID=6599, start time=01/02/2017 15:00, duration=1800 sec, scrambled=0
Keywords: "news,current affairs"
video type: "H264/AVC HD, 16:9, 25Hz"
audio type: "HE-AAC audio, stereo", language eng
Event name: "Headline News"
Event description: "Latest news update. For more information go to www.rt.com"

EventID=6602, start time=01/02/2017 16:30, duration=1800 sec, scrambled=0
Event name: "Going Underground"
Event description: "Going Underground brings our UK viewers the news they won't get on other networks. We examine both underground and mainstream issues from a fresh and alternative perspective. With Afshin Rattansi."

EventID=6603, start time=01/02/2017 17:00, duration=1800 sec, scrambled=0
Event name: "Headline News"
Event description: "Latest news update. For more information go to www.rt.com"

EventID=6604, start time=01/02/2017 17:30, duration=1800 sec, scrambled=0
Event name: "Watching the Hawks"
Event description: "Hosts, Tyrel Ventura, Sean Stone and Tabetha Wallace, along with their guests are your eyes and ears on the ground in the world of media, politics and pop culture."

What other clues should I be looking for?

Regarding season and episode IDs, I found the following in the logs you guys provided:

2442203: 11916: TV: PrivateDataSpecifierDescriptor::Parse: Private data specifier 9018
2442203: 11916: TV: ContentIdentifierDescriptor::Parse: Content ref ID - type 49, location 0, ID /SINDH
2442203: 11916: TV: ContentIdentifierDescriptor::Parse: Content ref ID - type 50, location 0, ID /VHPTMI

These are parsed in MC, but not interpreted (i.e. not used) since I do not know how to interpret them.  The Private data specifier, 9018 is the only number I have seen so far, seems to refer to the Original Network ID.  If so, it probably will not be very useful.

Do you guys know what Content Reference IDs are for? (see my next post)

Also, rather than carrying season and episode info in ExtendedEventDescriptor, as done in other countries, in UK they appear to be appended to the end to program description, like this:

Event description: "Documentary series. Mates Kieran, Andy and Connor hit a tattoo studio after a nights heavy drinking only for Connor to wake up the next day with a 'Burger Nipple'. (S1 Ep 4)[ S]"

Is this how it is done in UK uniformly?

Some programs also have [HD], for HD programming I suppose; and "[AD,S]".  What does "[ S ]" mean?  Stereo?  And [AD, S]?

Content Ref ID type 49 is for episode, and type 50 is for series.  But how do we use the IDs (SINDH and VHPTMI)?  We could use them to identify a show, for recording duplication resolution (instead of trying to match the series name and episode name) I suppose.

EDIT: Yes, we already interpret those IDs (and save them as SeriesID and EpisodeID).

Sadly not. You'll see all sorts of variations on that theme in the logs. Some programs have no S/E information at all in there. I can see it would be difficult to extract sensible data.

S = subtitles, AD = Audio Description

I believe this is the key to accurate series recording. We may never know the actual Series or Episode, but duplicate recordings could be avoided. It also opens up the opportunity to automatically resolve a recording clash by recording a repeat showing on another occasion. Missed recordings could also be identified and recorded at a later date.
