I know Engen is based around Z-Wave technology. I should soon begin to incorporate this into my home. However, currently the house is all running on X-10, and running well... except X-10 doesn't work well with LED lighting and we're also migrating to that technology gradually too.
Therefore, for some time, X-10 will have to co-exist with Z-Wave. My problem is that I do not want to have multiple apps to control things in the house. Having to use app 1 to turn on the coffee machine and dining room lights, but app 2 to turn on media room lighting will be too cumbersome and confusing for wife and child.
I know I can probably program an iRule interface to make the mixed environment transparent, and will eventually do that since most of my controlling devices shall be iOS. However, I'd like to start investing in Z-Wave/Engen/OneRemote, but not having an appropriate Android tablet until later this week, I am behind the curve. Some questions:
1) Can OneRemote make customised buttons? My X-10 server software has a web interface, and if I can program OneRemote buttons to send http commands, I'm all set. I can use the "conventional" OneRemote/Engen to control my initially very few Z-Wave devices, and the programmable buttons to control X-10 devices from the same interface.
2) Do you envisage an iOS OneRemote app in the near future (say, within a year).
