Restarting from last selection ?
« on: January 22, 2017, 05:45:00 am »

I just upgraded to MC22 for Windows.

I was wondering if there was a way for Media Center to restart from where it left upon last exit.

For example, say that I am in the audio panes, and I typed "Boccherini edition" and sort by disc to display all the songs in this 37-CD set that I have backed up to my hard drive. I am listening to it sequentially from disc 1 to 37 over the course of a week.
But during that time, I may logout or restart my computer a few times for various reasons.
Sometimes, I accidentally exit the program too.

I was wondering if there was a way to pick up from where I left off, sort of like the way browsers can resume from the last tab of tabs/windows when they restart. I couldn't find an option to that. Is there ?
If not, I hope it can make MC23.

Check Tools>Options>General>

In the window click advanced and in the dropdown see if Clear Playing Now on exit is checked.  If so uncheck it and this should do what you ask.

Thanks, but it was already unchecked, so that wasn't it.

This didn't work either, unfortunately. It just goes back to "panes" but does not go back to the last search from the panes, or set itself back to the last track and offset that was playing.

However, setting it to "playing now" seems to do approximately what I wanted.
It doesn't reset the search in the panes, but it brings Media center back to a list that included the results, and to the right track.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction !
I was also to it to automatically resume playing.

Now, I just wish it would also set itself back to the last offset (min:sec) in the track if I exited in the middle of playing one.

Maybe this can be improved in MC23 ?

what about using a new tab for that playlist and in that tab add last played.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of tab support.
I am not sure if this helps in my situation as I'm not using a playlist - just typing a search query, then changing the sort order in the panes, and then playing. Or at least I'm not saving it as a playlist.

This brings up another question - when I sort by disc#, I no longer see the artwork for each disc.
I don't quite understand the default sort order. Is it possible to change it.

I have attached screenshots that better show what I'm talking about . First one shows just typing "boccherini edition" in the search box.
The albums are shown in the order
Boccherini Edition (CD-03 of 37)
Boccherini Edition (CD-04 of 37)
Boccherini Edition (CD-37 of 37) ...
Boccherini Edition (CD-05 of 37) ...
Clearly they aren't sorted by album name.
Looks like it's actually artist name that takes priority.

So, I click under Disc #, "sort all files by disc # (removes group temporarily)"
This gives me the order that I want, but I no longer see the artwork.

Same thing if I sort by album name. I'm probably missing something about how to change the default sort order for the panes.

you can have the art work in a window by itself...but i think if you use that little arrow to move that window down you may be able to bring that art work window back up....any chance your still on W7 ?

EDIT: oh i see what you mean now...pretty sure that's just that tab...right click on one you can see the art and then check to see the other one that it don't match and then change it...am I making sense...lol

you can also drag those little tabs around so you can line them up the way you want...once you have it set up be sure to save it
