I am a fairly new user to JRiver and have it working well for the audio portion of my media library.  I am starting to try using it for the video portion now.  Almost all of my videos are ripped to .iso files to retain the original structure, resolution and fidelity.  I choose one of the files from the library and it seems to mount that .iso file to a drive letter and start playing.  If I stop playing and select a different file from the library, it seems to try to mount the new file to a different drive letter and instead of playing, just opens up the windows file explorer to the new drive letter's directory structure.

1. How do I get JRiver to unmount the previously played .iso file
2. How do I get the second chosen file to play instead of just opening the structure for file browsing?
3. Is there a better/correct methodology to use Blu-ray and DVD .iso files for playback in the JRiver interface?

ISOs can be a bit problematic.  Do some searches and you'll find a lot of discussion about it.  ISOs are a backwards concept in my humble opinion.  You retain all of the problems associated with DVDs and BDs when you make ISOs.  All of the encryption, the menus... all of the stuff that gets in your way.

I'm sure you have dozens or hundreds of ISOs, so it's probably not practical for you to convert them all.  But if it was my collection, I'd be converting them all to MKVs with MakeMKV.

Someone else might have some more specific advice for your specific situation.  Good luck.

I use Virtual Clone Drive (it's free) to mount the image, then it will play just fine. Once you've finished with that file, use windows explorer to eject or unmount the file from the drive and repeat the same process as required. There may be other software/methods for achieving the same thing, but this method works well for me.

JR MC22 does mount the .iso just fine, it just never unmounts after stopping the playback unless I have missed a step.  Also, sometimes after mounting, it never starts playback.  I figured that clicking on the coverart should automatically mount and start playback, then dismount when finished.

I'm with blgentry and am a convert to MakeMKV. I've been ripping legacy iso's that I've got in my archive progressively as i watch them. Over time I'll be iso free.

I also use VCD as per joffa's advice. Effective add on.

Back to your first point (and I'm away from my home PC, so can't test this), MC has an eject feature for discs in general. Given that an iso emulates a disc in total, I would have thought that an iso is ejectable. Doesn't this work?

OK - I've tested this on MC22.0.72 Win 10 x64 with Anniversary update with VCD 5.5.0.0 installed and this is what I did:

1. Navigated to the .iso in Windows Explorer
2. Context Menu / Right click on the .iso > Media Centre > Play
3. Now from MC, a dialogue splash screen shows up > New Media Action > select Play DVD
4. After the feature starts playing > Stop
5. In Standard View navigate to Drives & Devices > Select relevant virtual disc drive > Context Menu / Right click > Eject
6. (If you want to clear the .iso from MC's playing history) In Standard View navigate to Playing Now > Player > Clear Playing Now

If you don't do step 6, then the .iso still shows up but if you attempt "Play" MC gives a "Can't find media" type message ... makes sense.

So, MC functions as I expected. Don't know about automating the process. Sounds like a job for:

I was hoping that MC would handle all inside of its own interface.  I can manually do everything from the windows interface, but was hoping to make it easier on the family.
