Quick Tag ?
« on: July 17, 2003, 04:58:32 pm »

I've asked before and so have others, and I have received a number of answers, but I still cannot figure out in the least was Quick Tag is....

I can click the toolbar button and make the icon orange.  But other than that, what is different?

I think the name is a little deceiving...  it there's "Quick Tag", where's the "Slow Tag"?

To me, it's just a graphical way of filling in "list"-type data fields.  If you think of a multi-value (semicolon delimited) list-type data field as a container for "tags" (each value is a tag), the "Quick Tag" label makes sense.

When you're in "quick tag" mode, you can apply the tags (or rather, add values to the multi-value list-type data field) by simply clicking on the desired value.  The hard way to add the "tags" would be to go to the properties window, find the appropriate field, and add the "tag" of choice (by appending a semicolon and the tag name).

For example, the People field for an image file might contain "Scott;Brian" (which means the file has the Scott and Brian tag).  With quick tag, you can just click another tag (say Sabina), and voila, the People field changes to "Scott;Brian;Sabina".  Or you could click the Scott tag, and voila, the People field changes to "Brian".

I hope this was of some help...

Well, sorry but I still don't get it.  Thanks for the attempts to explain it to me, but I think I will just ignore Quick Tag.

Open Media Library.

Select a file with a certain artist.

Click the Quick Tag button.

Click the name of a different artist in the Artist Pane.

The file you selected now has the Artist tag changed to reflect the choice you made.

Try it. Pick a file you don't mind messing around with and just play with it.

Dont ignore quick tag!!!

It's tooo good for tagging photo's or list data types.

Here's how to do it step by step.

  • Go into a view scheme that has single fields (artist, year, etc) - it wont work for grouped fields as obviously you cannot put a song into   A-C as a value for the artist.

  • Press F4 (turns on quick tag)

  • Click on any file

  • You will see a bunch of little icons (I think they're meant to be little sales tag's - not too sure) appear - they are all grey outlines and one of them might be yellow with the inside having a squigle in it - this yellow one is the field that your file you selected currently is.

  • Click on any of the other fields in the pane to have the yellow icon move to this one from the old one (if it is a list data type then the other one will also stay chosen (yellow)).

  • Your file is now this new field type

It's basically just a visual way of doing the properties field.
All the values for that field are visually displayed and you just click on the value you want that song to be instead of having to type anything.

You just have to make sure that your in quick tag mode and that you select a file to deal with.

    Hope that helped!
