Request- Ignore "the" as start of the artist name
« on: July 14, 2003, 02:17:44 pm »

I have some songs that have the artist listed as "The Grateful Dead: and others with the artist as "Grateful Dead".  Unfortunately, Grateful Dead is in the G section, The Grateful Dead is in the T section.

I think that MC should either:
1)have an option to ignore "the" in the artist name
or
2)when making the tree of artist names, keep the word there but ignore it when making the list (Grateful Dead and The Grateful Dead would be on top of each other like on my ipod)

When organizing my library,  it would be much easier to see The Grateful Dead near "Grateful Dead: so that I can change the name of one or another and have all songs under the same artist!

Thanks for the great program!

Please dont post a smartlist how to do this.  When I have to program a smartlist, that is where I and many others lose interest!

This would be a handy feature.  Then we could have the artist displayed as it is on the CD, with the "The", but in the proper order in the system, w/o the "The".

great idea... please include support for international articles. German would be 'der', 'die' and 'das'.
Especially great for bands like 'die laughing' (yes. this one really exists in my database)
Ask Kingsparta about his gonkulator... (or look around in the forum for it).
It won't work. do it by hand.  just my thoughts.

I think this has been tossed around here before.  Have you considered naming your media files along the lines of "Grateful Dead, The", instead of "The Grateful Dead"?  This would make them appear in a more sensible sort order in the file system (i.e. in Explorer), as well as in Media Center.  No plug-ins or consternation needed.
