Smart Playlists: Can I create random Artist or Random LP?
Hi,

It would be cool if I could create a smartlist that randomly selects an Artist or LP.

Can this be done in MC9?

The answer to your question is NO.
There is nothing that will do exactly as you want ..

You can Randomly select 15 songs,
Randomly select 50 Minutes of music,
Or you can change to view type Album Thumnail, close your eyes, and pick one and play it ... that will get you the Single LP

It is possible but you need two smartlists to do it.

First create a smartlist called Random 1 with the following criteria:

Limit: 1 Tracks  Track #: =1

Then create a second smartlist called Random Album with these criteria:

Modifier: Full Albums Playlist: Random 1

I can't remember who posted this initially so I can't give credit where it is due, but thanks to whoever it was.

to do that, but unfortunately it doesn't. Maybe we could talk Matt into changing that ;-)

Of course, you could wait and hope that particular feature gets programmed into the next build...or the next...or the next...or the next...etc. Or you could take about 5 minutes and implement wickesy's suggestion and you'd have that feature today.

Really, smartlists are not that difficult to build and use and by not learning how to use them you're missing out on pretty much the most powerful organizing feature that MC has.
