Master License Confusion
« on: April 19, 2017, 10:19:08 pm »

With MC22 build 22.0.88 installed under Windows, I clicked Help|Upgrade to Master License on the menu.  I wanted to do just that-- upgrade my Windows license to a Master License.  However, something different that I do not understand ended up happening.  I saw a purchase price for $18.98 (Upgrade price.).  I thought to myself this is not too bad, so I entered my CC info and proceeded with the purchase.  When all was said and done, I did not get a master license at all.  I ended up getting a Windows only license for MC23 (that does not even exist?).

Can someone please help with actually getting a master license and what I need to do to actually get this license?

Thanks.

I attempted to use the key code that was emailed to me after this purchase with MC22 under Linux.  This is what I see when attempting to register.

Okay - this looks like a bug in MC22.0.88.  That menu item is taking the user to the wrong webpage link for the purchase.  The software is taking the user here:

https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/buy.cgi?productid=76&upgradefrom=???-???-???-???-???-???

When the correct URL to get a master license is actually here:

https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/buy.cgi?productid=77&upgradeonly=1

I actually do not want a Windows license for MC23 and want a master license upgrade.  I do not want and am not going to use this second Windows license that I never intended to purchase.  However, there is a price difference of $6 between these two upgrade options.  I owe $6.  Can I simply pay $6 and get a master license?

Please let me know.

From memory, there didn't used be an upgrade path from Windows to Master, but that may have changed now. . .

Licences for the next version of MC become available before the next version is released. The fact that it's become available means that V23 isn't far away. The V23 licence will work with the later versions of MC (V22.0.9x at a guess) but possibly not V22.0.88 as that came out before V23 licences were announced.

It looks like there is an upgrade path from Windows only to a master license, because there is a sticky thread in this forum on the URL to do so (this is where I found the URL I had posted after entering my old registration code).  The menu item I had posted is performing the incorrect action and needs to be fixed.

For MC22 in my Linux install, however, it is not supporting any of my APE files.  This means the majority of my music library is not even playable by MC22 under Linux.  I think I will simply stick with Audacious that natively supports my entire library.  With this being the case, I will not bother trying to get a master license and simply keep what I really had no plans to purchase anyway (it is 6 US dollars cheaper).  When MC23 comes out, I will have already upgraded.

For MC22 in my Linux install, however, it is not supporting any of my APE files.

Now this shouldn't be happening, considering Matt is the creator and developer of Monkey's Audio hence why MC for all platforms should play back APE files by default. Make sure you're using the latest build (22.0.93). If there's indeed an issue playing APE files on Linux, Matt and Bob will likely want to know (you could create a new topic about it in the MC22 for Linux section regarding APE playback).
