Should I use the install key or just leave it restored?
« on: April 20, 2017, 09:17:50 am »

Have been using JR Media center very seldom while reconfiguring my system (taking way too long)

It is still on the same PC for the last two years, but I keep getting a message saying my trial has expired each time I open it when I haven't used it for a while.

So, what is the best way to end this cycle of my "trial expiration"

Got the following email (once again)

I bought it, paid for MC 14, free upgrade to 16, paid for upgrade to  20 and did move it to another computer two years ago. All I am hoping for is to leave it on this same computer and quit having to "restore" while continuing to use on the same computer

You have recently restored a licence for Media Center 20 Windows. There are 10 restores available in each 12 month period.  There are 7 restores remaining at this time.

The restore activates Media Center and installs the license automatically.

The Install Key is attached to this email.  It is valid for 14 days.  To install on another PC, transfer the Install Key to the PC, make sure the correct version of Media Center is installed, then execute the Install Key by double clicking on it.

You need to install the version that matches your license, and then restore if necessary.

I am and have been running the version which matches my license and don't understand why I keep getting "trial expiration" every time I go back after several months.

Currently, the registration info under Help, matches the version and my name.

Hopefully, the next time I go back, will not get the trial expired again.

Things like changing the hostname (PC name on Windows) will cause this to happen. Changing hardware (motherboards, hard drives/SSDs, etc.) can also cause this to happen. I believe changing the MAC address can too, if I recall correctly. If there's system changes like this happening, that could explain why it keeps going into "trial expiration".

Thanks for the explanation.

I did change the name of the PC, didn't realize it may affect the licensing of JRiver.

May have changed the name a couple of times over the period to make various things easier to recognize on the wifi.

This helps understand and will help minimize the situation in the future.
