Migrate MC22 License & Application from PC to Mac
« on: July 27, 2017, 05:01:54 am »

Hi,

I have been running MC22 on my PC which died a few weeks ago.  I just replaced it with a MAC.  I would like to port my MC22 application and the license to my MAC.   I need to know the following:

1)  What do I need to do to download/install and get the license moved over?
2)  Can I simply import my previous PC version of the Library??

Thank you very much!

It depends. If you had a Windows-only license, it requires a Master license upgrade for cross-platform (e.g. Windows + Mac + Linux) support - there's no way to transfer a Windows license to Mac or vice versa (the licenses are different). However if you already purchased a Master license you can enter it in Media Center 22 for Mac. If you need a Master license, you can purchase an upgrade here (plus you'll get the MC23 upgrade too!): https://jriver.com/purchase_23_master_as_upgrade.html

As for your second question, you *can* import the library from a Windows library backup. But you will run into issues with file paths due to Mac file paths being completely different compared to Windows'. You *can* use the Rename, Move & Copy files tool to help with this, but it can be a bit complicated. What I'd personally do is import just the settings over from a previous library backup (then tweak those settings for Mac), then manually re-import all files using auto-import.

How can I tell if I have a "Master" vs a "Windows-Only" License??

You can email yourself your licenses from our Restore Page.

Look for e-mail from buy-button at jriver.

Instructions Please - to Migrate Library from PC to MAC
« Reply #4 on: August 05, 2017, 01:14:46 pm »

For starters I downloaded a trial version of MC 22 on my MacBook Pro running Sierra 10.12.6.

I desperately need detailed instructions for migrating my library from my Windows PC to my new MAC such that my Playlists will continue to work...

I am fairly technical on Windows but totally new to MAC.   I manually moved my music files from my PC to the MAC, and of course the different directory structure complicates things.   Most importantly - I want preserve all my playlists and file organization.

I tried following instructions by blgentry at:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=100749.msg700001#msg700001

It only partially worked....with the following issues:

1) I see two of every song.  One has a "-" next to it and the other one plays fine.  The one's that have "-" next to them still point to the Windows directory structure and they can all be easily deleted except when I try that my Playlists are totally empty.  The bigger issue is the Playlists...

2) My Playlists still have their structure but the path for the audio file still points to my old Windows structure.  I tried going to Tools>Library Tools>Rename, Move & Copy to change their path - but this does not seem to be the solution.   I tried changing the path on one song, which doesn't work because it creates a duplicate with (1) appended which is not the correct audio file.   It almost seems that what really needs to happen is to delete the working audio files and somehow fix the one's that have "-".

3) Prior to my "main" PC crash I did all my library editing on that machine and then transferred the library to a small Windows netbook to play/listen to music in our living room or other locations.  Once I have everything operation on my Mac, is there any way to "easily" transfer my Library updates from MAC to PC and keep my playlists intact on the Windows Machine??

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you,
Susie
