Just upgraded to MC22, DVD playback is now black.
« on: May 19, 2017, 01:11:03 pm »

Hi,

Long-time MC user (going all the way back to MC9).  Just upgraded from MC20 to 22.  I did not install in the same directory, just let it install to the new dir then pointed it at my media drives.  Works fine, audio plays, pics are all there, etc.  However, I stuck in Alien from the 20th Anniversary DVD collection, and the film started.  Titles displayed, studio logo after I picked PLAY came up, the THX logo came up, but then it stayed black when the actual movie started.  I could hear audio, but no image.  I played with a bunch of the Video Renderer and Video Playback settings, no dice.  I then tried it on MC20 since I know that used to work, it is also now black (but with audio).  I tried it on the Leawo Blu-Ray Player which I happened to have installed, and it worked just fine.  So it seems to be MC.

I turned on an off Hardware accelerate video decoding, rebooted, can't seem to get the video on screen.

Any idea how I can correct this problem with MC22?

I seem to recall (unless I'm mistaken) that there was a Windows 10 issue (likely caused by a previous Windows Update) that somewhat broke DVD playback a month or so again? You might see if there's any Windows Updates and try installing them as I also recall that one of the newer updates fixed it.

Hi,

Had my reply all typed up, just deleted it!  Found a solution, although I am unsure why it works.  After launching the DVD, and I can see that it is playing but to a black screen, I right-click and go to General Video Settings.  I changed "Red October" to "Red October HQ (requires fast computer)".  The image instantly showed up!  I don't know why that would work, but happy it does.

Thanks,
DD.
