Audio Improvements
« on: May 22, 2017, 02:41:01 pm »

I actually wonder how many people could (would) take advantage of this? I can think of many ways to improve (and many have been listed previously in other posts) than just adding another pretty face for ease of access by family members. I have MC22 and bought 23 with the thinking that some audio improvement or ease (more) of operation with the current MC. I purchased 23 for audio improvements and possible better/easier (read single click) navigation around the interface and I hope it continues toward this goal.

Hi

audiowise is already topnotch. Do not see what could be better.

Features: maybe a SOX adjustable upsampling filter (as already discussed in MC22)

2) Navigation: way to hide some menu items (video, TV, photo): here I think there is some way, although I do not know how.

Enable Audio Only Mode (View > Audio Only Mode).

My requests for MC23 are the same as for MC21 and 22:

* genre specific tags for the remote / EOS
Today, when I start playing (any genre) a song EOS/ Gizmo is showing
1st row: song name
2nd row: interpred and album name

what I would like to see in genre classical
1st row: song name
2nd row: composer
3rd. row: orchestra / soloists / conduktor / Chorus
the Tag and there order should be configurable.

* Offline DB for the remote / EOS
sometimes I am surfing the net and some possible new music came across.
because my musik server was not up and running ( or not available, offline, what ever) to check if I did not already have the CD I had to let pass the opportunity ( had to park the cd's in the shopping cart, what ever).
That is the reason why I am asking to implement for a offline DB within EOS ;-)

EOS is a third-party application and not developed by JRiver, you would have to ask them for any improvements. :)

So, you are saying with jriver you can have genre specific tags shown within the play now windows?
I would be surprised because the information base to come from the server. afaik jrmc isn't capable to do so.
Offline dB is the same.

All information in the database is available to a client. A client could also store as much of the database locally if it wanted to (including downloading the full complete database if it were so inclined, but thats probably hard for anyone thats not Media Center itself).

It still makes no sense to do that on the remote side.
The screen should be much larger on the server side than on the tablet or mobile.
And you can config it for all devices at a central place.
I'm not a programmer, but because of data transmission efficiency  I hope that MC pushes not every info it has to the remote.

The remote can ask for specific fields it wants, so its entirely up to the remote to decide what info it needs for display, and how much data it gets.

Whats important is that I think that remotes could do all the things you ask for already, and specifically for the context of EOS - its not developed by us. We're always open to improving your web service if needed, so if the developer of EOS needs additional information or control that the web service doesn't expose right now, he should contact us with the details.

I totally agree. Gizmo should allow the user to configure the thumbnail text or playing now text. Limiting it was fine for a small phone, but the with the increased use of tablets there is plenty of room for addition tag information to be displayed. I do not use JRemote but I believe it has the same limitations.

I've been thinking about writing an Android client for MC that has more features than JRemote or EOS.  The metadata display is at the top of my feature list.

I will probably never write my dream Android client for MC though.  It's just a TON of work to write a big Android app, and I'm not sure I'm willing to put in a couple of hundred hours for this particular project.

I'm not even sure why I posted.  I've just thought about this quite a bit and would definitely enjoy a client that allowed the user to change the metadata layout.
