Crash
« on: December 09, 2016, 07:12:38 pm »

EDIT: Deleting title as I think it has something to do with TV Recordings and time...

Was stuttering for the last few videos then all of a sudden boom.

Happened at 8h00 PM sharp when some TV Recordings were starting.

If you want logs let me know.

Another Crash (I actually had a couple more a few weeks back but didn't post them and I don't know how to reproduce...)
It happens maybe once a week or so?

All I can say on this one is this:

I was listening to a dsf album (it had been playing a few times in a loop)
Came back, Hit stop, went into Theater view by hitting the Green Button on the MCE remote
Started playing a TV Channel
It played for about 2 seconds then boom.

I deleted first half of the "previouslog.txt" in the zip as it was pas 10MB (would be nice to auto-flush the log after a few days...)

Another Crash.

1. Started watching a live recording (with the colossus) on the HTPC Server
2. Approx. 10 minutes after I started MC as a client on another PC to watch the same recording.
3. It crashed the server.  WHen I restartd I oculdn' twatch the recording and had to close the client PC.

I have two fast PCs connected through a 1gbps router this should normally work?

When you say, "it crashed the server", is Windows crashing at that point?

No I meant JRiver on the HTPC server crashed. I just restarted it, grabbed the logs and everything was fine afterwards but haven't tried to reconnect on the client PC while recording as I didn't want to lose the recording that was happening then.

I'll play around with this a little more later on but hopefully logs can give you clues as to what happened.

Thx

Just crashed again. This might have to do with listening to hi-res content while watching a TV show being recorded.

Hopefully logs can tell what happened.

Here we go again..Casual listening to music then no response...Taskbar End task...You kinda always hope it will respond after 5-10 minutes but it doesn't...
Anyone else experiencing these sporadic yet frequent crashes?

That isn't a crash.  It's a hang.  MC is still running.  It may be waiting for a drive or the network.  A driver may be at fault.

It might help if you provided more details.  Are you always playing the same file type, for example?

Antivirus software does strange things sometimes.

We're not seeing many stability problems.  You could read the Weird Problems thread in my signature for ideas.

A hang it is.

It's hard to reproduce and in this particular case i was just playing different music files with no TV recodrding happening.
It never happens with the same files
MS Defender is tamed with exclusions to .exe and Multimiedia folders is in the exclusion folders all these files are in the same folder.
I didn't send log files for this particular one but sent logs for pretty much all others listed above.  it was sent to logs at jriver dot com.

If I could give more details or an exact way on how to reproduce I would.  I'll definitely try to pay attention on how and when this happens.

Thx for the help!

What kind of music files?

Try playing only ordinary FLAC files (for example).

Is everything on a local drive?

Sorry Jim I don't remember but I'm fairly sure it was either DSD or Hi-res PCM (96/24).

I'll pay more attention next time but it's very sporadic and hard to reproduce.

EDIT: All my audio files are ALAC,MP3 and .dsf

Thanks.  ALAC is different from DSD or DSF.  Try playing one file type at a time, and avoid any oddball files like multi-track FLAC or uncompressed FLAC or embedded CUE
files.  There's a good chance that the problem is related to one of those of something similar.

As I recall, imeric has a very strange non-standard setup that uses multiple servers.  These servers are interconnected in some way that I can't remember.  You might describe your complete setup here.  It might be relevant to the various problems that you are reporting.

This has nothing to do with a server client issue. Just listening to music on my htpc with nothing else connected to it.

I could find links to my previous posts describing  my setup but I don't think it's relevent to these issues.

In a nutshell.. We're talking about 3 pcs with tuner cards and one main Htpc with  a colossus that will be used as a server from time to time... Nothing fancy here...

Is this system completely stand-alone?  Or does it interact with other MC servers in some way?  Shared media?  Shared files?  Anything?

Standalone .  I need to pay more attention to the type of files I'm
Listening to when this happens or what it is I'm doing

Logs I sent earlier may help.
thx for trying to help Brian.

I was doing some cleaning in my TV recording directory, stopped for a few minutes then hit play to resume watching the Hockey game then boom.

Something is going on and I'd love to know why it keeps crashing (or hanging...But this was a crash)

Can someone please look at the logs to see what is causing these sporadic but yet very annoying crashes?
thx

You've reported so many problems that we're just not seeing on a wider basis.  I'd bet that this is going to turn out to be one for the Weird Problems thread.  It's possible it's a Media Center bug, but I think it's more likely to be an issue with a driver for your video or tuner hardware.

Simplifying your system might help.  Eliminate any network dependencies, for example.  Use Red October Standard.  And so on.

All drivers are up to date. Antivirus is tamed and no other PC's are connected to this machine.  All hard drives are local.
My setup is quite simple as I'm not running off of a server and watching (or listening) on the same PC doing the recording while this happens...

If someone could take five minutes to look at my logs to see what causes MC to crash that would be greatly appreciated.  If you did and didn't find anything just let me know!
Thx Jim

An up to date driver can also have problems.

I keep getting those odd crashes from time to time (once or twice a week) and I can't put my finger on how to reproduce.  They always seem to happen when a TV recording is happening in the background.  I've sent several logs but most of time they get too big to either read or send...
A setting to auto-reset logs after a day or two Would be nice.

A few pointers:  I was connecting on that PC remotely just a few minutes before (RDP)
It was also used as a server with a client connected to watch a TV recording at the same time.
Tihs time it crashed watching home videos when I hit stop on the remote.

Usually after a crash recording resumes where it left off but not this time.  So I missed the end of the game. >:(
