[22.0.108] PlayStation 4 DLNA file ordering
« on: June 23, 2017, 01:32:10 pm »

So my roommate and I have just acquired a PlayStation 4, and would like to use it for media playback via DLNA. However, given a known unpatched issue with said console, files only display in alphabetical name order, as opposed to episode or track order. Without mass-renaming everything in the media library, this effectively makes linear watching impossible.

I would rather not have to edit the name fields of hundreds of files for the sake of one console, especially when other devices order the files correctly as-is.

Does anybody have any ideas for workarounds?

As in, what's the difference between pushing and pulling and how do I effect the former in this scenario?

Push - set the PS4 as a zone and play to it from MC

Pull - browse with PS4

You cannot control the view of the DLNA browser on the PS4, that is a PlayStation problem

Do you know if the PS4 can browse by different tags, or just Name?  You could try and set a custom tag, or other tag that PS4 can see and do the rename in that tag

Nope. The PS4 doesn't appear to have a way to honour alternate tags.

I guess I need help; I'm not understanding how I'm supposed to set the PlayStation 4 as a playback zone. I added the zone and named it "PlayStation 4".

...Now what? Wiki documentation and various forum posts state that I'm supposed to configure this via Playback Options..., but there are no options that I can see to set it to play to a specific IP address and port or whatever. The only devices I see are my HTPC's local devices.

Feeling really dumb right now.

Alternatively, is it possible to have MC to just do a display name as or something? Like, have it present the [Name] fields to the PS4 as
=[Season]-[Episode]./ [Name]?
