Multi-Channel music - glitches - how do I debug please?
« on: June 24, 2017, 03:04:04 am »

Hi Guys

I chose MC because it seemed to do a great job of cataloguing (sp?) my multi-channel music collection, in all the (many) different forms into a single place, nice.

Unfortunately, I've started noticing glitches during playback, and it's not ideal.
"Started noticing" is the key here, as I don't know if it's just started or always been there.

Ver 22.108, HDMI audio into a Yamaha receiver, either DTS or Dolby Digital.
Source Bluray file or DVDA folder, (haven't tried all the formats yet).
Checked the source files with alternative media player (vlc on same PC with same everything, for DVDA), and no glitches.

How can I debug this please?
Thanks in advance.

In MC's audio settings, what are your settings?  Did you try others?

Are you using bitstreaming?

Hiya JimH

Audio Device Settings: all unticked except "open device for exclusive access"
Bitdepth = automatic
Buffering = 100ms (recommended)

DSP settings - Output Format (the only ticked box)
Output encoding = Dolby Digital (requires ext decoder)
Channels = 5.1
Mixing = no upmix or downmix

Source  = 96kHz 32bit 6ch
Output format = 48kHz 64bit 6ch

Bitstreaming = none (recommended)
pre-buffering = 20 seconds (makes no difference)
everything else = default values (afaik)

Thanks for any suggestions

I have not double checked your settings, but I will try to do that later.  Can you try to be more specific about the "glitches" you hear?

I have been using JR since, probably, v17 thru v22 and > 90% of my listening is in Mch from dsf, dff, and BD.  My collection is composed of nearly 40TB of selections of those, formerly played via HDMI into a prepro, now played via USB into a Mch DAC.  It has been trouble free and very worthwhile.

Hiya,

Thanks for taking the time to help, much appreciated.
The "glitches" are just very short (subsecond) gaps in the playback, like when a headphone socket has a poor connection & you have to jiggle it to get connection, & it cuts out momentarily to silence, and then back at normal volume. Very disturbing, makes my ears 'pop'.

It's quite intermittent, not predictable, not the same place twice. I checked a DVDA directory with VLC and it playeded with no glitches, but always get them with MC.
Sometimes many minutes between, sometimes only a few seconds.

The files are on a network share, but I also tried moving a troublesome one onto the SSD in my PC and it didn't improve.
