Set the language used for "get movie & TV info"
« on: July 03, 2017, 07:07:47 am »

Will it be possible at some time to get name, image/cover, description in a particular language?
As far as I can see, TMDb has done a lot in this area... shouldn't it be possible now?
Or have I missed the developement on MC's side (sorry, still on MC20)?

development for MC20 has ended. Any chance of this happening would be in MC23

yep sure ... I asked in the hope that it might happen in this development cycle ... it would be the reason for an update. Otherwise MC is pretty perfect for me :)

We're planning to do this soon, some details still have to be worked out first though.

Since you guys are interested in using this:
Currently I would plan to have a global option somewhere to set the default language, and additionally a drop-down in the lookup dialog to override it once. Does that sound sensible? Or should the drop-down just change the global default?

Another topic is fallback, if the selected language has no data, do you prefer not reading any data and perhaps manually using another language, or automatically going back to english?

Hi Hendrik,

fallback language in english is fine for me.
I set JRiver to german and the movie information should also be in that language, dont need a mixture of languages.
If it doesn't find the movie in this language, that take english, better than no information ;-)

Thanks and BR,
Erich

Hendrik - thanks for looking into that topic!

I would appreciate it if the setting would be independent of the language setting of the program. I've set MC to "English" (because I'm used to it), but would like to get the movie & TV infos in "German" (because I'm lazy when I sit on the sofa). Selecting the setting in the lookup dialog seems to be handy. Fallback language "English" is probably going to make the most sense, since usually the information will be most complete...

The lookup language would definitely be separate from the UI language.
