Ive  read a lot about JRiver having good sound quality and info tips etc about settings and using DSP.
My set up is pretty simple. I am fortunate enough to own a Cambridge CXN streamer which has had great reviews for sound quality (up-scaling, high quality DAC). So should I be spending time tweaking JRiver for supposedly better sound quality or keep it simple. Do these tweaks only work with JRiver connected to a DAC via a USB cable. Does streaming on a local network ignore all the internal JRiver settings?

So if like i thought i don't need to tweak then how do I keep things "clean". What should I make sure is disabled in all the options

No need to do anything.

Are you streaming over DLNA?  If so, the first thing you should do is change from MP3 streaming to "no change".

I have my dlna set up to deliver 24 bit wav as this is what naim recommend over flac. If your cambridge supports it, that might perform better.

All the wasapi / asio / buffer / play from memory settings etc will be for "local" playback in MC to an attached dac.

blgentry: can you be more specific. I don't see "no change" in options but there are some settings like keep original etc.
what about volume parameters, normalization etc.

^ Original or Specified Output Format are probably both good choices.  I was writing from memory before, but these that I just quoted I saw in the options dialog.

I have mine as "specified output format" which is "pcm 24 bit". Experiment as your cambridge might not support that.

I have a CXN running on DLNA set as 24 bit PCM . With no issues at all

Mostly though I let MC pick up the CXN as a network device and run it as a zone , with a zone switch set to play all audio to the CXN zone. I control this through JRemote.

If you use CA Connect then your DNLA server will show up on the list of music sources. Your configure of views etc will show and you can select as normal

yes i think your settings are pretty much what i have. the old argument comes up though, is 24 bit pcm whatever going to improve a file that's only an mp3 128.

There's no "argument".  Files are limited by their format, sample rate, bit depth, and bit rate.  The settings that were suggested for you are to enable the highest quality transfer of any file.  So you can hear the best sound from a high resolution file, or a low resolution file.  These settings will not improve bad or marginal files.  But they will let the good files shine producing great audio quality.   

It's sort of like a highway with a 200 mph speed limit.  A scooter will still only do 35 mph on that highway.  But a super car will be able to do all it can do.
