Dates back - thoughts on how to make them useful?
« on: July 02, 2003, 12:46:58 pm »

Personally I'm cheerful that dates, imported/modified/created etc are back. Unfortunately, they behave much the same way as they did before.

Is there any plans for the dates to be useful and manageable? It would be nice with grouping by day, week, month and year for example...

Matt? Anyone?

Yeah,
mentioned this in another thread.

Dates are an important area that need to be sorted.

There should be a 'date' type and all parts of it should be accessible via:

field name (year)
field name (month)
etc. etc.

We also should be able to customise it for using for filename generation in terms of:

01/03/79
01/03/1979
Mon 01/March/1979 etc

so we can have full control over the output when using it to name files.

I'd like to see the days as well as the date for filename generation.

Its a tricky area to get right but an important feature.

Nila,
Don't forget the various locale date settings. For example, here in Sweden, we mostly use 2003-03-18 (yyyy-mm-dd) :) But the local settings could (I assume) easily be controlled after what you use in Windows.

I tried to use sorting by date in a scheme made up by Date Imported/Artist... The result was split by seconds I believe, so poor Dave Gahan's album was in three different groups :(
