« on: July 24, 2017, 02:40:03 am »

I am new for this site and apology in advance if I may mistake putting question the place here. MC23 for Master grade I used ,but in Macbook , up-right frame '' search '' box, I could not put any characters, letters or this box does not work.  MC23 for W10 is working.  Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Language Input setting is Japanese although my OS is in English.
I can copy and paste ironically.

Hmm, I can't reproduce this.  With build 23.0.36, I type characters into the search box at the upper right of the program and it works fine.  Anybody else having this issue?

Can you give examples of characters that aren't working?

I suspect both guys are trying to use non-ascii (international) characters. But I could be wrong.

The search box works fine for me with ascii characters on 23.0.36.

I'm desperately trying to recall the key sequence that brings up a special box that let's you type international characters into MC for Mac... I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

I discovered it affects not just my search box - I cannot input any text even for changing of Playlist name.
Again, Copy & Paste Works.
And it is just normal Alphabet text that I'm trying to input - not Unicode.

Yep, found a problem which apparently (according to Google search) only affects certain keyboard input layouts.   Please try installing the latest build 23.0.41 to see if it works for you.   When I switched to a Japanese input source I was able to reproduce the problem and this workaround fixed it for me.

Could either Tomidokoro or Laiyl confirm whether the new build 23.0.41 fixed the keyboard entry problem?  Thanks.

I didn't set it for auto update yet, so you need to download and install it from the build thread at the top of this board.

Hi JohnT,

I downloaded 23.0.41 and I can confirm that the basic english (romanji) input works fine.
However, not all the Japanese input methods work - not sure if you're aware of the Japanese language input, but there are 3 main methods of character entry:
Japanese Hiragana
Japanese Katanaka
Japanese Romanji -> Which is basically English Characters. [This Works]
Despite changing the input method to Japanese Hiragana, the text that comes out remains as Romanji (English Characters).

Again, I am able to copy-and-paste text including Japanese Hiragana/Katakana/Kanji from another application/window.

Hope that helps, and thanks for the efforts so far!

Okay, so I think this is the behavior it's always had, so now the current version behaves just like our older MC 22 version, is that correct?

Next step is to figure out how to get the correct characters to input.

I'm not sure about the older MC 22 version as I only just started with MC on the Mac just a few days ago, having only used MC 22 on Windows previously.
(I upgraded to a Master Licence recently and installed MC on my Mac as well, which is how I encountered this problem.)

Cheers,

I think this still applies

Quote
1. NEW: A Mac text box can be shown in order to enter special characters by using the shortcut Cmd(⌘) K.

From this build:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=99544.0

It's been my understanding that all international characters have to be entered that way.  But maybe I am misunderstanding how it works.  I never use those kinds of characters.

I tried and it works, but this is very counterintuitive and absolutely not the right way for international character input.
I handle multiple languages, and this is definitely not the right way for handling Japanese input.

Sidenote, using CMD-K doesn't automatically move the cursor to the window textbox... you actually still have to navigate your mouse to the textbox in order to key in the text.

I have the same issue using 23.0.20 on a headless Mac Mini. I have a Japanese keyboard and cannot enter text into the search box or Doctor Who in either English or Japanese characters. As a work around I need to write text into Textpad and then copy-paste into River (Cmd-V works ok).

Tomidokoro-san,
23.0.41 works for romanji input for me only.
Can you try if the Kana/Kanji/Katakana works for you?
I cannot bring out the conversion dialogue box - everything just defaults to Romanji.
I presume you're Japanese from your handler name.

laiyl-san    Yes I am using Japanese language  in MC23 and succeeded to input just Romanji/English whihc is my daily use,
while I never searched by Japanese in my small folder of Kayou-kyoku , Enka  etc .  Also I am very vague it was able to input Kanji/Romanji and worked when MC22 ran before I did grade up, though still MC22 is hold in my device . Anyway I will try to do as to if it works.
As I am out today without bringing device where MCs in ,I will try to do and let you know update.

All French, German, Italian... characters like á, è, ä, ö , ü appear as broken characters "a ", "e " and so on.
I know that using command and "k" is able to type international characters but that needs so much time
and is useless for all the files that have been imported from the hard disc and tagged with iTunes.
Would it be possible to change or fix that.

laiyl-san    I tried to put Hiragana/Katakana on search box but did not work both MC 22 & MC23. Hope it will be developed by next version .

I have something like 50 or so songs that have characters like the ones you typed above.  These appear in the Name, Album, and Artist fields.

These songs were ripped on my Mac using XLD and got their metadata from either MusicBrainz or FreeDB.  I didn't have to do anything special to make this happen.

I stopped using itunes quite some time ago and started fresh, so I don't have any files that were tagged with itunes.  I wonder why you are seeing regular ascii characters instead of the international ones.  Hmm.

It's strange:
DER WILDSCHÜTZ Fünftausend Taler
appears in the tag bar as:
DER WILDSCHU TZ Fu nftausend Taler

If I copy the text with the broken characters and paste it to a text editor
they appear correct.
A search for "Wildschütz" doesn't show the files with the broken characters.

Build 23.0.42 will focus the text input field immediately.   We definitely want to improve text input for all languages, but don't have a target date as yet, sorry.

That's good news because that's really a weak and time-consuming point of Mediacenter.

Still waiting for the Language Input to work and was using the Command-K option to open the dialogue box to input Japanese text.
But after upgrading to 23.0.65, entering the text in the dialogue box and pressing OK/Enter now crashes MC.
Running on High Sierra.v10.13

That's an interesting question. It hasn't been fixed for such a long time.
I hope that version 24 finally will fix the problem.

There's no way I can recommend 24 if they can't fix this in 23. This is so basic, it's ridiculous.

Well, John said this above...

We definitely want to improve text input for all languages, but don't have a target date as yet, sorry.

Translation: They want to and it's on their to-do list, but the priority is likely lower compared to other more important things on their to-do list.

TL;DR: Someday it'll be improved and fixed in a future release.

It's worse. The workaround Command-K dialogue box entry doesn't even work properly anymore.
Command-K opens the dialogue box, but when you try to use it to input the text, the entire program crashes.
The problem has been around for 6 months, and even with 23.0.103, it's still not fixed??!!
Just terrible.
