Build 36 -- Why it's important and what to expect
« on: August 16, 2017, 10:40:17 am »

We just promoted 23.0.36 to Latest.  Here's what you will find:

Panel and all its components are usable.  This is a big step in the renovation of the old WebGizmo.  It's all based on HTML5 now, so you can use a browser on any device on your network to play media locally (Here) or on the machine running MC (Player).   It's designed for touch screens and it resizes appropriately when you move from desktop to tablet to phone.

PlayPower is also in good shape now.  This lets you automatically power up equipment and set it when you first play audio (video is coming soon).

Radio KISS is an integral part of the touch screen Panel app.  It is a quick way to start playback for casual listening.

Panel and Radio KISS use HTML5 in your browser.  These apps require no installation.  They are served by and part of JRiver Media Center.

These new features have some things that don't work yet, but they are both very usable.  We'd be grateful for your comments and suggestions.

You can preview Panel and Radio KISS by entering this in a browser on the same machine where MC is running:

http://localhost:52199

(Media Network must be turned on in the options for MC.)

Once you connect, you can play in either direction (to your phone or to your computer).

If you're playing on your phone, Bluetooth should also work.

Playing on a phone has some broken parts in this build.  You need to start playback, pause, then start again.

I just tried it, using an Android phone and a Samsung soundbar, and it worked.

You can also add a BT speaker in MC as a new zone, then play to it.

Audio works, but playing video I have problems:

- does not find all video files (local drive, ~ 15 videos) only some

Also mp4 video does not scale to full screen

the new webgizmo is a major improvement over the old one and looks like a good foundation for the future. The MC client style tree view performs quite terribly though, it's *really* laggy on a PC (when expanding nodes in the tree) and completely unusable on a reasonably modern phone (android 7.1.1, nexus 6, latest chrome). Looking at the network logs, I think this is an issue over a slow connection so probably isn't noticeable over a LAN. For example, expanding audio/artist results in a request to MCWS/v1/Browse/Children?Version=2&Token=undefined&ID=1002 which took a ~4s in total (am connecting via a VPN from rural France atm) and provided ~600 items in the resulting XML. Streaming/paging such content in seems likely to make a big difference.

I can get it to work on my android phone but not on a apple type phone. my android does have JRemote and the apple phone does not, does this make a difference?
