Connecting MediaCenter23 Linux to MediaCenter22 Windows Library
markh56:
Hi, I couldn't locate any threads discussing this. Sorry if I missed them.
Can I attach a linux MediaCenter23 to a MediaCenter22 Windows library? When I attempt to I get a screen asking for login but then "Connecting to the server" message is written in the middle of the screen so I can't key in any user/login info. Not sure if it's an anomoly or the short answer is upgrade the Windows box to version23. Thanks

I can't speak to the 23-->22 issue, but what you're seeing is a familiar UI issue (that isn't fixed for me in 23).
It's a known issue with the way the connection dialog renders on some linux distros. The secret is to grab the credential window (even though it's under the "connecting to server" pop up) and drag it away so you can enter your credentials. You can also usually alt-tab to the credential window and surface it that way. It's accessible, just underneath the other pop up.

Yeah, I seem to recall seeing that UI issue since the first MC for Linux builds. Indeed dragging and moving the window does indeed workaround it.

MC23 can work with an MC22 server.

Thanks...I should have known that...
Correct - v23 can load v22 library. Loaded up fine once I moved the pop-up.
Now if I could only get sound out. Playing with a 4GB Rock64 board and an upgraded stock Debian LXDE load. I'm certain it doesn't have the required sound packages loaded. I'll probably try a different load but then I have to figure out how to get the desktop and display manager loaded as the image is a Debian Stretch minimal or Debian Jessie minimal. I'm not a linux guru (actually not a guru of anything for that matter!). I'll play some. Media Center's awesome by the way. Thanks for all your work.
