Newbie problem managing Plug-ins
« on: September 06, 2017, 09:33:09 pm »

After clicking managing plug-ins and selecting VST the window flashes and nothing new appears. It looks like the window for managing plug-ins is broken on Ubuntu 16.xx 64 bit. I searched the WIKI but nothing. Sorry as I am new to Linux!

What version are you using? 64-bit or 32-bit MC?

If you're running 64-bit MC, it's worth noting once the beta testing of the newest 64-bit version is complete, the 64-bit version of MC won't run correctly on Ubuntu 16.XX anymore (due to it having older libs and the newest 64-bit MC builds require newer libs, found in Debian Stretch and Ubuntu 17.04 and above). In that case it might be worth trying the 32-bit MC build.

Running MC ver 23.0.21 not sure that is 32 or 64 bit, Other than the manage plug-ins quirkiness it appears to play WAV audio files just fine.

I'm not sure if VST plugins work yet or not. There's an old topic from 2014 saying it didn't in MC20 for Linux. Not sure if it since has added support for them.

Bob? If it's not supported yet, you can find Linux VST plugins here: http://linux-sound.org/linux-vst-plugins.html

VST plug-ins are not even an issue as I can't launch the Manage Plug-ins window VST selection... the window won't open. BTW this is a dedicated MC player so would it be best to use Ubuntu 17 64bit and 64bit MC or Ubuntu 16 64bit with MC 32bit?

Ah, I see now. I'll try to test this here in a little bit. Just wondering though, what GPU do you have? Do you use the open source drivers or the proprietary drivers?

Confirmed, no open window appears. Should be an easy one to reproduce, Bob. In DSP Studio click on Manage Plug-ins... then select Add JRiver, VST, or Winamp Plug-in...

I thought it might be a window order issue (with the open window behind) but nope. It's possible other functions that use an open window like this may be broken too.

BTW this is a dedicated MC player so would it be best to use Ubuntu 17 64bit and 64bit MC or Ubuntu 16 64bit with MC 32bit?

Honestly? If you have 4GB of RAM or more, go for Ubuntu 17.04 (and 17.10 when released next month) 64-bit and use MC 64-bit with it. Because of the newer lib requirements for the 64-bit build, the Debian/Ubuntu tutorial is going to change once the newer 64-bit beta hits the stable repo.

Easy to reproduce, not so easy to implement however it is implemented in the next build 23.0.51
