I just built myself a nuc braswell celeron5cpyh and am having trouble playing mkv files. It played one movie (the fast and the furious) only jerking a couple of times but it wont play another film without the speech being out of sync and becoming jerky I tried the different settings in the standard red october and it only made a slight difference any suggestions? I know it hasn't got much grunt but can anything help it im running mc 22

Is hardware acceleration enabled under Options-> video? Get GPU-Z and monitor GPU utilization.

I tried what you suggested and it did smooth out the frame rate /playback thank you :-) but now i have a very large speech /video synchronizing problem the audio can come 3 seconds sometimes before the video! what is the process there? I had an i3 with a 2gig video card before  it and it plays perfectly but its very noisy which is why im trying to make the nuc work is there any adjustments on jriver to help I havn't messed around with a machine that is as low powered as this one before - yet it played that movie fine the other day im puzzled? is there anywhere in the forums to look on how to adjust speech synchro?

Under Options->Video->Advanced->A/V sync you can adjust that.

But can you describe a little bit more of your set-up? (how is your DAC and storage connected). I have a different set-up with total latency <50ms leading to perfect lip sync and A/V sysnc.

Your 3 seconds are much!

Im running a nuc 5cpyh into a marantz sr5007 receiver and am using the DAC in this amp as an external decoder its connected via hdmi and that runs into a hisense 4k tv i was looking at the playback this morning maybe the delay is more like a second or so I got pretty frustrated when i wrote that last post LOL

Check the buffer under Options->Audio->Device Settings

You have the Intel® Celeron® Processor N3050 processor with a CPU passmark of 885 which is not a very strong cpu. The GPU type is not even listed on the ark@intel side, Only the GPU frequency.

Also your NUC supports only HDMI 1.4.->4k@30Hz max.

Do you let the 4k tv do the upscaling from 1080p or have you configured MC  under Options->Video->Display Settings to custom to e.g.3840x2160 32bit@24 Hz for 23.... etc. (max 30Hz in your case)

Then your NUC does the upscaling. I think only RO Std will work because your GPU is to weak to do the upscaling to 4k using RO HQ.

I will try lowering the resolutions on the playback settings on the jriver.  I will check.

I think I do have them running at the high setting like you said- I was trying to match the resolution of the tv(3840x2160).

If I put the computer's resolution to low (below 3840x2160), Windows doesen't fit the size of the tv, and it is the recommended windows 10 resolution that the computer suggests if that actually means anything:-) .   I just thought I had to make the two the same.

Thank you.

Yes in MC you should have the same resolution as your tv. That's the best solution.

The other solution is to have FHD resolution set-up in MC and let the TV do the upscaling. Because you have a weak GPU, that could be the better solution in your case.

Thank you for all of your help I do appreciate it and it did remind me about how much help my poor little cpu would need running that resolution lol I managed to solve it by putting a 2 second delay in the hdmi signal being sent to my marantz receiver in the options audio hdmi menu in JRiver - that solved the sync problem-both the marantz and the tv do upscaling so i think that gave it the extra buffer it needed to line everything up. it runs well now and the sync is fine -Thanks ;D
