Dont see how anyone can say no as it wont effect them if they are added - they just dont use them.

Yes.  Groups will make the interface more 'user-friendly'

Thanks for the reply Matt,

Glad to hear they're coming back!!!!!!

YIPPEEE!!!!!!

Groups are going to be hard to 'Auto Choose' an icon for though as they'll contain different view schemes - this one I think u'll have to let us choose manually on what icon we want for it :)

One idea though - Initially if u dont want to create any groups (an understandable thought to keep it simple for beginners) - it might be an idea to create one group called: Tasks or something and inside of it create a bunch of view schemes specifically for doing specific tasks. I know I plan to create such a group as soon as it's added.

There will be view schemes for:

Imcomplete Albums
Missing Coverart
Mismatching bitrate for an album (is this possible) ?
Need tagging

- I prefer view schemes to playlists, not a big playlist fan for some reason to be honest :(

Same here, I have no playlists, many view schemes.

So what's the real difference between the two?  From the help file:

Quote
Playlists are lists of files you create that have something in common, or for a specific purpose (like "Female Artists", "My Favorites", "Dinner Music" or "Top 40 Hits of 1989", etc.) Each Playlist is like a folder that contains an ordered list of songs you want to play and preserve

Smartlists are Playlists too, but instead of being a list of files, they are a list of rules. You can create a Smartlist that basically says: Play everything in my "Top 40 hits of 1989" Playlist EXCEPT for the Christmas songs and the songs by Aretha Franklin. Whenever you select to play a Smartlist, it will apply the relevant rule to your entire database, including any new songs you may have added to your library that meet the criteria of its rules. So Smartlists are unlike Playlists in that the content or order of songs cannot be preserved—it is not a static Playlist.

Is a View Scheme like a Smarlist?

A Playlist is basically just a list of files. They can have a lot or absolutely nothing in common with each other, and can be in any order you see fit.

A Smartlist is a Playlist that MC creates for you based on criteria you set forth. Like only Pop songs from the 80's that have a rating of 4 or greater and have a BPM of less than 30. The representation of this list is just a straight out list, though.

A View Scheme can be based on criteria the same way you can with a Smartlist, but the representation can be customized to the way you want it. You can have it broken up by Genre, then Year or however else you want it. View Schemes are identical to Smartlists except for the way MC shows them to you.

While I can understand using View Schemes in lieu of Smartlists, I can't understand how View Schemes could ever really replace a plain old Playlist.
