64-Bit Build: Audio won't play since 23.0.76
« on: October 24, 2017, 05:25:09 pm »

64-Bit Build
Same playback issue that developed with yesterdays download with the same message showing when trying to play a track, "Something went wrong with playback".

This issue isn't occurring from ther downloads with the 32-bit Build. I use a Windows 10 64 bit operating system x64 based processor PC. Up til yesterdays download, both players were working with the 64-bit build being the preferred choice in both sound quality and overall operation.

Try rebooting.  I'll move this to a new thread.

I've been trying everything I can think of including uninstalling both bit builds and reinstalling just the 64-bit build,,, same result, "Something went wrong with playback".

I've reported the issue with your 64-bit build that started with 23.0.76 download. If this issue resolves itself, I'll report back. But I won't re-report this issue with each consecutive download and waste your webspace.

Cheers,
Robin

Try Direct Sound in audio options.

Try working through Audio Setup again:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Setup

Make sure the 32 bit version and its Media Server are not running.

I've tried every audio option that will work with 32 bit version, nothing works. As a last resort, I deleted both versions and reinstalled the 64-bit version by itself. Thr song & album cover will momenterily appear, then the playback message.

The 64-bit version was playing when the new download availablity appearred  After downloading and having the playback issue appear, I closed the player and did the same downlaod with the 32-bit build and had the same issue. But when I closed the player and reloaded it, the player worked fine. I wish it had been thqat easy of a fix with the 64-bit player as I much preferred that one.

Try enabling options > audio > advanced > auto configure output settings on error

Good idea,,, I've already tried that hoping it would fix the playback issue. It didn't. I've tried every direct output that works with the 32-bit build, nothing works. I'm at my wit's end.

I compared the 2 Media Center 23 files and noticed the 32-bit has a X64 file while the 64-bit does not. So I threw a wild pitch and cut/paste the X64 file into the 64-bit Media Center 23 file. Even rebooted before trying it out. No dice. So I put the X64 file back where I found it.

I've got a functioning 32-bit Media Center 23 so I posted this issue for JRiver's benefit. But there's no doubt the 64-bit build sounded better with my Windows 10 audio dedicated mini-pc. JRiver has a potential winner with this 64-bit build. I have a Win 7 laptop for internet browser posting such as this.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Is it all file types that fails? I just discovered a problem with all my WMA files, even though they are not DRM protected.

I am on 23.0.77. I am not sure, but I actually think 77 introduced my issue.

You might want to start a new topic about it, along with uploading a few sample files for the devs to look into it.

Do you get sound from the tests in Control Panel > Sound?

If so, do you have a 64 bit driver for your audio device?

Did you try other audio devices.

Antivirus software might cause problems with 64 bit, but not 32 bit.

It's most likely to be at or beyond the point where MC talks to the driver.

Update to 23.0.77, a WMA issue was found and fixed.

Actually ALL my library is WMA but my issues started with the 76 download and 77 didn't fix it. But to that point, I had been using 64-bit 24/7 since it was first introduced with zero playback issues.

But I'm tired of messing with it, especially after totally uninstalling both builds, then reinstalling 64 bit, waiting 13 hours to upload my library only to have the same playback issue. So I'm done with that build. I'll be happy with the 32 bit build that works just fine. :)

Wait for the next build, Hendrik fixed another WMA issue, thanks to tls62dk.

If they still don't work with the next build, Hendrik will probably need sample WMA files to look at.

Oh I'll try again but I doubt I'll ever go to the extent I did this time to fix the issue on my end. No more complete uninstalls which I'll admit was a bit extreme considering I have over 127,000 tracks in my library. If 64 build doesn't work the first time, it's gone til the next software download.

But if it's any indication, that's how much I liked the 64-bit build. It worked & sounded awesome with my dedicated 24/7 Windows 10 Pro Fall Creators Update 64-bit system, til 23.0 76 happened.

YES, works fine

YES

Did you try other audio devices.
I have no other audio devices other than my Win 10 mini-pc. But I did try YouTube thru
Connected Media and it played ok on it's own but when I tried to go through the player, I got Something went wrong with playback. Details:
 Failed to find file. (hr=0x80004005)

Antivirus software might cause problems with 64 bit, but not 32 bit.
I have no antivirus software, all I use my mini-pc for is audio from my library on JRiver Media Center 23

It's most likely to be at or beyond the point where MC talks to the driver.
As I have already stated, the 64-bit build worked fine with zero issues til I downloaded 23.0.76

I did try playing a track straight from the hard drive library using Tools:Listening Test....  no success with the same non-playback issue.

Try uninstalling the driver and see if you can get any playback using any device.

How would I go about doing this?

If you are talking about the WDM Drive, it is not installed. But I have tried both installing and uninstalling this driver and get the same playback issue.

You can uninstall an audio driver by finding the device in Window Control Panel > Device Manager.

Not the WDM driver.  If you are using that, turn it off for testing purposes.  It's in the Features section of MC's options.

OK, I uninstalled the active audio driver I use and it made no difference. I do not use WDM Driver and it's not installed.

OK, I borrowed a neighbor's CD and it's playing great so this might be an issue with the 64-bit build seeing my library even tho I've tried playback of a track straight from the hard drive with no success.Or maybe it's a WMA issue as my whole 127,000 track library is WMA?

How about downgrading the version to before 76 for now, and enjoy listening to music again? Then download the next build that appears here and you'll be ok.

As Awesome Donkey already pointed out a couple posts above, another WMA issue is being fixed in an upcoming build. If you are having issues with 76, you can use an earlier build until the new one is out.

I'll say right now that I don't keep prior downloads, I always delete them. Maybe I should be rethinking this. That said, I've looked around and it looks like this forum does the same thing I do as I'm finding no prior downloads. If I could find 23.0.75, I'd give the 64-bit build another run. Otherwise, I'll just wait for the next version. But thanks for direction that never even occurred to me.

Here is 73, which was before any of the recent WMA changes:

The fix should come in 79 or newer.

Actually I went thru Matt's posts and found that exact download which was successful. I now have a functioning 64-bit build and I don't be losing that download anytime soon.  ;D

Evidently it was Jim as this 64-bit build is working awesome again and the audio sharpness that was lacking with the 32-bit build is back. I know there's not suppose to be any audible difference but,,,.

This does sound very similar to my problem.

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,113038.0.html

That is the same message Im getting - "Something went wrong with playback".

I shall try the 32 bit or a different build and see if it works..
