Help setting up MCH DSF Over Ethernet
« on: November 25, 2017, 06:28:52 pm »

Hello Everyone!

I need some help setting up Playback of Multichannel DSD Files over Ethernet in my system.

Im using a core i7 Laptop running windows 10 and JRiver media center 23 that is connected to a gigabit access point. My dac is a Soulution 560 also connected to the access point and Im using CAT6 Ethernet cables. The DAC supports 1bit 5.64MHz files over ethernet, so, compatibility isnt the problem.
I have already setup jriver to Bitstream DsD, Im also using the memory playback setting (my notebook has 16GB ram). In the option configure DLNA server, these are the settings: Mode - Specified Output format only when necessary. Format - PCM 24bit. In DSP STUDIO, Output format is Checked and Output Encoding is set to none. All sample rates are set to No Change. Channels is set to 2 stereo.

With these settings im capable or playing every type of files on my library, except MCH DsF. These are very large files, a 3 minutes song is over 400MB and its not unusual for some classic songs to go over 2GB.

I have messed up with severall DSP studio options like setting an output sample rate for files over 768000Hz and using different set of channels but it doesnt work.

Its worth saying that the files arent ISO. They are individual DSF files for each song.

When I press play on the track no error message appear and my CPU dont try to transcode anything. Its as if JRiver tried to play the file but then give up. Id like to play it without transcoding, but if its not possible what should I do to transcode the file?

So, what do you guys recommend, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to the forum.  Did you try turning off memory playback?

Thanks JimH!! Yes I did but it didnt work. The same think happened. The program tried to play it and then kind of gave up. No error message appeared. Im thinking of uploading one MCH DsF file to the cloud and post the download link here for you guys to check it out. Am I allowed to do it in this forum?

If you're set to bitstream, then MC won't do anything to the files.  It just sends them.

Your DAC may not support the file.

If you're connecting directly to the DAC with a USB cable, then DLNA is not a factor.

You didn't mention it, but you did enable Bitstream DSD (requires DoPE compliant renderer) under MC's Options > Media Network > Add or configure DLNA servers... > Advanced, right?

I'm not sure, but you *might* need to enable DSD bitstreaming under MC's Options > Audio section too.

I don't work for JRiver... I help keep the forums safe from "male enhancements" and other sources of sketchy pharmaceuticals.

I just tried switching bitstream to "no" and it didnt work. I'll purchase an usb cable this week and i'll let you guys know if it works. But since my system is on a country house I'll only be able to try it next weekend.

Yes i did enable bitstream DSD on the DLNA and the Audio section. My non MCH DSD files are playing perfectly, my only problem is with the multichannel ones. May I upload a few files to the cloud so that you guys can try playing them on yours system? The we can compare the JRiver settings and see what is different.
