JRiver Id, Squeezebox & Harmony remote
« on: November 25, 2017, 03:31:54 pm »

I have a few questions about the Id.
How does sound quality compare to the Squeezebox Touch or a stand-alone i5 or i3 PC running JRiver (see below)?

Does the Id have Ir remote support so I can use a Harmony One remote for Pause Play Forward & Back?

How silent is the Id? I would like to sit it right beside my Moon Pre-amp which is beside my speakers. I see posts saying it is quite silent, but the fan noise concerns me.

Will reinstalling the OS on the Id wipe the rest of the drive, with the music files?
Can I run Squeezebox from it?

Using the Id USB kit in a Dell Optiplex 790 with 4gig ram. Use existing 250gig HD for the OS & install another 2TB HD for the music & a USB ir receiver for my Harmony remote.

Thanks

No difference in sound quality.

No IR support (yet).  We're getting close to having it working.

Quiet enough you won't hear it from across the room or if you have music playing at an audible level.  You have to stand next to it when it's not playing anything to hear it at all.

Why install an OS on it?  You could, but it would no longer be an Id.

No other software can be installed on it.  If you want to do that, you would be better off installing your own OS and some version of MC.
