This is the latest BETA version of MC23 for Linux.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted.

Download:
amd64      http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v23/latest/MediaCenter-23.0.90-amd64.deb
i386      http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v23/latest/MediaCenter-23.0.90.deb
arm      http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v23/latest/MediaCenter-23.0.90-armhf.deb

Also in the beta repo.

23.0.90 (12/8/2017)

1. Fixed: Export playlist from the file menu wasn't working properly (only the right-click export would work).
2. NEW: DLNA rewrote the entire controller function. Added logging to all DLNA Controller functions.
3. Changed: DLNA controller function "Ignore Transport Events" will also not subscribe to those events. We can now control any DLNA renderer in polling only mode.
4. Changed: DLNA controller function "Ignore Get Position failure" will allow streaming only devices to work as if they were reporting position. It uses Getprotocolinfo to determine whether or not the device is alive. This will co-exist with the "Ignore Transport Events" function as well.
5. Changed: DLNA controller. Standardize function timeouts.
6. Fixed: DLNA controller is far more efficient making device calls. It only does so when it really needs to.
7. Changed: Display of playback information in a DLNA zone which we are not controlling is smooth and efficient.
8. Changed: DLNA controller. SetNextAVTransportURI logic streamlined and made more bullet proof. NOTE your device still MUST support GetMediaInfo as well as SetNextAVTransportURI for gapless playback.
9. Changed: DLNA controller. If SetNextAVTransportURI is NOT disabled as an option and we find a device doesn't support it or is broken we automatically turn off that option in the controller settings.
10. Changed: Display of playback information in a DLNA zone which is transitioning tracks as the result of a SetNextAVTransportURI is very fast now.
11. Changed: Update of the time slider in DLNA zones is more accurate and smooth. There MAY be issues with broken renderers. Need feedback here.

There are a huge number of DLNA controller changes in this build.

Some feedback would be nice.

Anything in particular to look for while testing the DLNA controller, or just regression testing?

Just test that it's working as expected.  Bob re-wrote a big section of code that was no longer readable.

Thanks.

You need to be using the beta repo for Debian/Ubuntu/Linux Mint to get it. You can use the beta repo alongside the stable or latest repos.

Still problems with importing some WAV files where good and confirmed files end up being refused on import, marked as DATA or just skipped. Reported earlier and verified (WAV64 input module?)

Just did a re-install of MC 23.0.90 and it is very buggy on playback. Files fail with permission and ownership issues. How can I slush back to version .84?

+1.
.84 is by far smoother than this.
My concerts 1080P Blus on this 90 version jumps, worse than 84.
The 1080P video  jumps too, but not as bad as concerts 1080P
84 version plays video far better than 90, base on what I have tested.
Testing continues.
Thanks.

@bob - can you message me and let me know how to join the beta team? I'd like to try your latest 23.0.90 for MacOS if I could - and would also like to try beta releases in general. THANKS!

So far the DLNA controller function in 90 seems to be working as expected for what it's worth.  I couldn't reproduce any DLNA issues yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled in the coming weeks.

Different files than the one you sent me I assume since we used that to fix it.
Can you send me a new misbehaving file?

You can simply download the previous build from one of the threads in the forum and install it manually.
Can you give us more info on the permissions of the files that you can't play?
Right click on one and do "locate on disk, external" to start with.

Hi George,
Are you still referring to playback to a DLNA renderer?

Hi George,
Are you still referring to playback to a DLNA renderer?

Yes Sir, but wait, do not tweak anything yet.
I will be calling Spectrum Tuesday to see if I can upgrade to higher bandwidth.
Also, my new LG for UHD optical drive, a (replacement drive) will be here tomorrow, in a few days I should be able to test with uhd.
So go easy, until I write back <grin>
Thanks.

No it appears random. 400 files out of 7000 missed. I tried 137-20.wav (that I sent you) and it was imported. Could the problem happen when importing a large number of files over a windows network share? Things seem to be settling down a bit now that most of the files are done.  -hillcreative

We did make a change to fix the issue you saw with that 137-20.wav file.
If there is another issue with wav files in particular it would be good to track it down.

I'm wondering why you are re-importing all of the files, or is this a first time import on that machine?
Windows shares should be OK unless the network is flakey...

I thought I was having problems with 23.0.90 as I was getting errors on playback so I did a clean re-install of .90 and continued getting playback errors and the re-import may have been causing those errors as that has calmed down since all imports have been processed. I still am missing some 400 files out of the 7,000 imported and don't know why this happens. All the files in question playback fine on other software. 137-20.wav came over fine. The network is good and functioning for some 5 years.

There could be something we missed in the last fix.

Screen shot shows 6556 files in library (top of screen) Import summary shows 6760 songs with 0 imported (lower left). Is there a way to access a log which shows which songs were not imported? Otherwise its all random lookup of some 7K songs :(

Yes.
Turn on logging in MC under Help.
Re-run the Auto-Import (I assume you used that before).
Email me the log and I'll pick one out.

Rebuild missing thumbnails does not work. I can rebuild individual thumbnails by right clicking a file but not as a batch.

I think there is something going on with your DB.

Lets look for bad/deleted files
Create a new smartlist
call it bad or removed
under Rules do
Media Type is and click on ALL of the media types including empty.
Under Modify results do
Limit Datebase to  click on removed and bad

Click on OK

Your result will be a playlist of all bad or removed files.
Select all of them and hit the delete key
Hit the refresh button (or F5) and if any of them show bad up, delete them again.

Then re-run the auto-import function with logging on.

report results!

Bob, just sent you another file that MC has a problem with. It incorrectly identifies a wav file as "data." I can't duplicate behavior on any other tagging or playback software. Although this file did import as you may have changed the wav64 as previously mentioned. BTW the previously sent file that would not import on MC 23.0.84 (file 137-20.wav) does correctly import on 23.0.90. HTH  -hillcreative
