MC shuts down during rip

Today, I was ripping a Tony Bennett [Box Set] CD which has 23 tracks on it.  I'm using the LAME external encoder with the "--alt-preset standard -Z" parameters.  After track 11, MC simply closed itself and the ripping stopped.  I had to open MC again and start the ripping from track 12...

What gives?
