Problem with JRiver SQ
« on: December 30, 2017, 01:54:35 am »

Hello, I would like to preface this by saying that out of all the players that I have tried, JRiver is the best.

But, there is just one problem. When storing my music on an External HD, it sounds much worse than if I were to store that same file on my system drive.

I end up having to copy files I want to listen to, to my C: drive in order to have an enjoyable listening experience.

I propose, to solve this just have an option to be able to copy files to your system drive before playing them from memory.

This is the only problem I have with this product, but it is one that makes me second guess it.

Thanks.

Unless you're using a DLNA or UPnP Server to serve the files from the external drive, it is impossible that they could sound different.

Could you provide more details about the "external drive"?

It's a 4tb Western Digital that uses a 3.0 USB cable.

The difference is that the music is sluggish and generally sounds muddied, while if I listen to the file on my C: drive, it's a vast improvement and much more enjoyable.

I have speculated that it might be because I don't use a DAC and am the only one who notices this problem, but that is unlikely.

Thanks

If you're just reading the file from the drive and playing it in MC, it is impossible that it is different.

I can't explain what you believe you hear.  Sorry.

Okay, thanks for your input into the problem, anyway.
